DanMachi S2 - OVA - Hestia Bounces into Frame

Hestia was happy to invite Ryuu to a deserted island called Paradise Island for helping her Familia in the last ranking contest.



Miach's Familia usually goes to this Paradise Island (in Japanese, the words for deserted and paradise are homonyms) to collect magical herbs, but he wanted to do a favor for Hestia for several things. He seemed cagey about it and Naaza also appeared circumspect when talking about it to Cassandra.

Hestia and Lili butted heads immediately over who should spend time with Bell, and they arrived at a beach beauty bathing suit contest. Haruhime wanted in on this action too.

Things got even more farcical when Welf took on the role of a reality show host trying to catch unguarded moments as the girls changed into their suits. Hestia left her underwear hanging on the "camera" and the "cameraman" never followed his directions to pan down on Lili's shorter frame.

Mikoto started down the runway as the first contestant FOR REASONS and modeled an old-fashioned clam diver's suit. She filled it out nicely. Hestia scandalized everyone with an improved version over Welf's improvised suit from the first season OVA. It was an unbe-leaf-able bikini. Lili poured on the sex appeal, making the other girls angry at Bell for reacting to her obvious ploy. Haruhime tried her best with an innocent pure white one piece. Which one would win?

Before Bell cornered himself into choosing one of his Familia's girls, the usual girl getting in their ways landed on the beach. Ais was not in her right mind, speaking with a Western accent, and had a strange mushroom on her head. Ryuu surmised this magical herb island must be the home of the mythical Everything Flower which grants wishes but is dangerous to handle.

Well, everyone except Bell got struck by the Everything Flower. Surreal scenes playing repeatedly of old jokes started giving hints that we may not be seeing real things.

Where did the barbecue come from? Who cares? Just look at these girls jiggle as they bite into succulent meat. Naturally, Hestia had to double-fist a sausage. FOR REASONS, again.

Then everyone collapsed and the mushrooms became little mushroom head versions of themselves. How could Bell save them? Before he could do anything, old enemies popped up from the water to stop him from going anywhere. And after a volcano exploded and cracked the screen, Cassandra woke up. How she makes sense of anything in her fortunetelling visions is a wonder, but we also see why no one listens to Cassandra until it's too late.



Speaking of things being too late, the final scene turned into a scary tale ending when Cassandra realized she had never left her dream!

The end credits had great scenes of the mushroom head girls having fun on the beach. Somehow, this year became the year of Butt Sumo, as we see Lili defeating Hestia. Of course, because Ais is this show's Best Girl, she had to have two end cards.
