Ai goes back to Neverland with the help of Futaba and Hikari to rescue Peter.

Episode 9 - "The Story of Tears and an Endless Dream"

Hmm.

The title of the episode should have been "The Story of Blue Stripes and an Endless Dream." Just saying how important Ai's choice of panties were that day she met Peter. Would an infant have remembered a dream for twenty five years if he saw just plain white? I don't think so. Good job, Ai, on choosing interesting underwear!

I'm a bit sad that I didn't get to have any "aha" moments this episode, because I figured out everything last episode. Even the importance of blue stripes and that the black cat was Cait Sith. I do wonder about the malleability of time on these remembered dreams, because it's interesting how the relative time frames between Ai, Mato-chan, and Towano affected the original dreamer's memories as an infant.

When did Mato stop sharing those dreams with Towano the infant? When she graduated high school? Towano remembered Mato from his dreams, but did that happen only retroactively after Ai helped him wake up? Also, he confirmed that he only remembered everything after he saw Ai's blue stripes when she tripped on that can and landed on him. Did that event also confirm the dreams, like collapsing the probability wave function in quantum mechanics? It's all a wonder, which is fine, because we're dealing with dreams during the school's Dream Festival.

There was one "aha" moment that mattered, and that was Ai realizing that Peter was Peter Pan in Neverland, and that she was his Wendy. The serendipity of helping put those pieces together, literally, for Futaba and Hikari's mosaic was a very neat bow tied on top of her found, but then lost, dream love.

Heh.

Ai thinks she saw the past in the dream and wonders if Mato-chan forgot her love confession.

The mission is to go back to the future, er past, er dream!

Ohime kitten loves sitting on heads.

Uh oh. The cats and Hikari are starting to doze off with Ai. Are they going into the dream too?

Yay! Ai made it back! With Futaba, Hikari, and the cats!

Is it really okay for three high school girls to be sleeping in school? Is this school supposed to be dangerous, or something? Otouto-kun Senpai will stand watch.

It looks like the water's flow out of the ship is increasing. The baby is getting sadder and lonelier.

Good thing the cats and the other girls came with Ai, or they wouldn't be there to hold open that cabin door at the last second. Cait Sith just needs to be dramatic all the time.

Aw. Neverland is just a fleeting dream given to that abandoned baby by the black cat snuggling him. Who knows how long he really dreamed before he woke up crying.

Peter knows he'll wake up as the baby, but he's scared that he'll wake up to being abandoned and freezing to death. It's understandable that he would want to keep the dream going as long as possible, even if no actual time passed in the real world.

Ai's solution is to remember to cry, loud, when he wakes up. Someone will find him. Maybe even his own mother will come back. Don't give up! Live!

Ha! Peter even called the black cat Cait Sith. No surprises for fans of ARIA.

And it's dawn already. These kids really spent the whole night working on their projects.

Come on. Cait Sith is a magical cat, so that can't be a real black cat who's lived for another 25 years or so.

There it is. Towano-sensei has Peter's eyes. Too bad they had to darken his hair a bit just to make it more explicit that he was Peter in Neverland.

Towano explained that his mother came back. He was only abandoned for a few moments.

Mato is still agog, but Ai put it together already.

See? Blue stripes were very important. And he keeps saying the words in English, "blue stripes" over and over again. Those blue stripes made him realize that Neverland was real.

Cait Sith and Ai made the same expression with their eyes when they gestured for Towano and Katori to take their time with their reunion.

Aw. Makoto can act like a good older brother too. So many mortifying things happened to Ai in the span of a night. She fell in love, two boys saw her panties, they were actually the same person, and the older one is her homeroom teacher who is in love with Mato. Yeah, that's pretty rough.

Nice. Putting all the pieces together, literally, in a Peter Pan mosaic with Wendy looking like Ai.

I guess the cats in this show are the real dream experts since they nap all the time.

Next time, it's New Year's Eve stuff.
