Futaba and Kokoro compete for special prizes at the town's Halloween festival.
Episode 6 - "The Story of a Halloween Night's Dream"
Hmm.
I noticed a couple of things besides Futaba's main theme that dreams and reality go hand-in-hand. She means actual dreams, not goals or wishes, but because reality informs or is related to a dream's images and events, these things can be signs of real things being important to the dreamer.
The first thing I want to note is that my theory that Kokoro is a boy took a big hit this week. Even if Kokoro's big sister forced "him" to wear this frilly cat costume to get half-off specials on merchandise at the Halloween festival, I doubt a boy would agree to wear such a girly outfit. Traps are a thing in Japanese media, but a reluctant trap is pretty rare outside of certain genres and subversive comedy styles. Still, I can see an overbearing sister forcing a little brother into a dress so that Kokoro's revelation as a boy has more of an impact, but that's looking really iffy after this episode.
The other thing is the developments between Katori and Towano-sensei. The dude with suspiciously covered eyes was barely introduced two episodes ago, and is spending even more time with Katori. He seemed affected by Katori's stray mention of how students putting on an event at the Marine Town Wonderland reminded her of something she left in her distant past. Add that to some kind of ghost haunting Ai in the preview for next episode at the school's cultural festival, where the ghost has suspiciously similar hair to Towano, and I'm sensing some kind of past connection here.
Heh.
It's Halloween! Man, this town doesn't half-ass anything.
So, Hikari is dressed up as a prince? Why does she have a fang now? That's not a vampire prince costume, is it?
Ha. Futaba has to make sure she's not in a dream with all the costumed people in the parade. Marine Town Wonderland, indeed.
If Kokoro is a boy, he's making the cutest trap costume of the season right here. I already suspect the unnamed girl from the cafe is Kokoro's sister, but I can't see that nice girl forcing a boy to wear a frilly kitty cat dress.
Pikari is plotzing all over the place with Teko's costume first and now little Kokoro as a Kitty Ojou-sama.
Hee. So awkward between Futaba and Kokoro. Well, Futaba has her own shyness issues, so it's pretty admirable that she's even trying to engage a stranger.
Kokoro went on a "date" with Hikari. Not even denying it! Futaba needs to assert her place in the friendship hierarchy.
Ah. The principal must be nearby. Ohime and Cha are running around dressed as ogres.
Har. Makoto and Ai in Octopus Jester costumes. Not Ane-chan-senpai and Otouto-kun-senpai but Tako-chan-senpai and Tako-kun-senpai. Um, isn't that a tentacle grape costume Ai has on?
Hee! Kokoro crazy for octopus. She wants that big plushie!
So, the big deal for the episode is the Scavenger Race, like they hold at Sports Day Festivals. Nobody wanted to sign up because nobody wanted that big octopus teddy bear.
But a kiss from a prince? Stampede!
Katori-sensei just drinking beer and watching the ridiculousness.
Futaba got serious. She needs to save Hikari's lips for herself! Somehow She and Kokoro became rivals when Kokoro only wants that big octopus.
The people in this town are too much fun. They all want to see what the cute kids' "tricks" are instead of giving them the random item for the scavenger hunt.
Towano-sensei again. This time he actually gets to drink beer with Katori instead of just talking about it.
Futaba does her best to be assertive, even if she looks like a stalker as she works up the nerve. Nice assist from Chakamon.
And it's a tie! Where did Kokoro get that handkerchief, though?
Ho. Hikari is kissing everyone, anyway. At least Futaba got the first kiss.
And now they're both in a dream. When did they fall asleep?
Oh. Dozing off in a spa with Ai and Katori. Nertz. Not too much time spent in that Jacuzzi.
Next time, Ai appears to have a romantic adventure with a strange dude during the Cultural Festival preparations and Katori is not happy about it.
