10 Second Anime - Violet Evergarden - Episode 1

Violet, a weaponized automaton-like girl, joins a private mail service as an Auto Memoranda Doll. Season Premiere.

Episode 1 - "'I love you' and Auto Memoranda Dolls"

First Thoughts.

I was not expecting a steampunk Pinocchio Mahoramatic mashup! A battle robot decides to learn about love after the war, when she had known nothing else and only had served one man. We're definitely going to see themes of identity, learning one's place in society, prejudice against automatons and the handicapped, and heart break. I have a feeling, as Violet remembers her last moments with her beloved Major Gilbert, that my heart is going to get broken pretty much every episode. Bring it on!

Heh.

Oh man. That scene with the brooch matching Gilbert's eyes shows Violet already knew what love was. I can't wait for the heartache when she finds it again.

Shut up, Nurse! Hodgins was just about to tell Violet that Gilbert is dead! This is going to be a thing with Hodgins trying to spare Violet's feelings about Gilbert and keep giving her hope that they'll be reunited.

The nurse said her belongings were sent to some far-off army base before being delivered to the right place. Could that be where Gilbert is? Alive or dead? I'm sure that's where the brooch will be found.

Was Violet the only fighting Doll on the winning side? Maybe there were more.

Hah. Hodgins is pretty good with Violet, making her choose that stuffed puppy. Also, biting is going to be a thing with Violet. She can't use her replacement hands very well yet, and her last memory with Gilbert has her trying to drag him to safety with her teeth. And it sounds like Violet never knew Gilbert's last name, if the older brother called her "Gilbert's dog."

Ah. Evergarden. These nice old people will be her guardians. They were Gilbert's favorite relatives. This Hodgins guy is taking on a lot of responsibilities for Gilbert. I hope we learn their history too.

Nice, shiny hands. Adamantine prosthetics, but Violet is still getting used to them.

So, do these Dolls need to eat? How are they powered? This version of Europe looks like it's set right before World War I, except they already had it.

No, Violet, no. Don't let yourself get thrown away! A sword can be reforged into a plowshare.

Hodgins is an entrepeneur! He's running a private mail delivery service because the government mail used to be used only for the military. And they need a dictation service for the illiterate. This will be where Violet ends up, judging from the premise.

Hodgins appears to be employing a lot of attractive women. Are they all Dolls?

So, is this Benedict guy Hodgins' younger brother or just an equivalent from the neighborhood?

Dolls apparently don't need sleep either. I hope we get some information on how they work, like how their skin heals, or doesn't.

Aw. The Evergardens aren't going to let Violet stay at their house. Concern over her being an automaton? A war automaton? Just can't handle weird, shiny hands?

Oh ho! Helloooo Gypsy Auto Memoir Doll! They're programmed to understand love, don't you know!

Violet was programmed to kick ass, so it's going to be quite a journey for her to understand love.

She keeps placing that puppy doll on the floor. Is there going to be a scene where she starts to care for it?

Oh man, my heart got broken already! Gilbert told Violet to live! And that he loved her!

This show is going to leave me an emotional mess afterwards, isn't it?
