Episode 8 - "Operation Capture Fate"
Heh.
I got a few things right and a few things wrong from my thoughts on who showed up to the Fate party, but it was all interesting. And they led to the long awaited appearance of Negi Springfield!
Touta has amnesia from before his accident. Was that ever made clear before? Well, we know it wasn't an accident. And we know Eva was there to discover his "parents" dying. I can see why both Fate and Eva are trying to keep some secrets from Touta.
So those guys really were Touta's friends from the village. And they got left behind at the station and in the narrative.
Aw. Isn't Fate such a nice old man? No. Not really.
Ha! Deep breath. "Terrorist! Bomb!" Fate wasn't expecting that!
Karin wears spats? That is not what a girl wearing thigh-highs and sporting zettai ryouiki should be wearing!
Touta actually got a couple licks on Fate. I think that made Fate kind of... happy?
Noo! kiriE turned to stone!
Hey. These guys with Fate are in a group named White Wings. That's Negi's group!
Hmm. That robot had black pupils so it's not Chachamaru. Tsukuyomi Iwai, she said in kansai ben. Full body cyborg? Tsukuyomi is the Moon God, or just another way to reference the moon. I always found it interesting that Japanese Shinto had a Sun Goddess and Mood God instead of the other way around for Western mythology.
Kuroumaru recognizes these fighters from "Inverse Mars." That's the other dimension that Negi spent so much time on in the original story.
I know Touta is not really calling out the weights for Kurobou the Gravity Sword, because how stupid would that be during a real fight, but there's got to be a better way for exposition. How about Kurobou's voice saying it as internal monologue? Not everything has to be spoken like a Noh play.
Aha! kiriE had a backup plan with a countdown timer. She's a smarty every day.
Ohohoho! I had to belly laugh. Touta taunting Fate like that was sooo reminiscent of the old manga.
That's how you do it! Delayed timer on that petrification nullification spell. Operation Capture Fate accomplished!
Okay. I can tell Eva and Fate really don't hate each other and really don't want to fight. They just had a difference in opinion about something without Negi to patch things up.
I thought these guys were just getting caught up in Fate's pace, but it was really Eva allowing it to happen because he could destroy the whole island just getting out of that underground area.
The first question from Ikku was a good one to tease us about the overall plot. Fate needs Touta to rescue Negi. Details to be revealed later because PLOT.
Negi's not dead? Duh. Adults keep secrets from children. Always.
The most important question in the Negi Universe. Who does he love the most!?!!!!one!eleventy! Eva doesn't want Fate answering how she feels about Negi. I guess she got over Nagi years ago.
Karin is happy to go to Yukihime's room for "punishment."
Kuroumaru's question just revealed to us that Ken Akamatsu wants to keep writing about Negi and girls' pantsu for another twenty years. Oh? That's not what you heard? Let me check my hearing... Yup. That's what I heard.
Touta asked an inconvenient question for both Fate and Eva. Did Fate kill his parents? There's way more to it than that, judging from the looks they gave each other.
And here's where I was right! A third faction came along to insert Negi into the story. The Chachamaru lookalike belonged to Fate's group. The Kuu Fei lookalike belonged to... Negi Springfield's faction! The mark activated when Touta used Magia Erebea!
Negi! Get a shave! He smiles wearily like Negi, making Eva's heart flutter, but Negi would never let himself look so disheveled. There's more going on with him than a sudden disappearance and a grave marker for a cover story.

Eva and Fate are going to start working together now. As if we didn't see that from the opening credits with Fate hanging out next to Yukihime.
