The Vatican and Law Enforcement Detectives discover the purpose of the Motley Clown's labyrinth and Fr. Julia's connection to it.
Episode XI - "The Gold of the Darkness; I am with the Lord"
Hmm.
This mystery's finale definitively established Fr. Julia as the Nemesis to Roberto and Joseph's investigating duo. In the form of the reversed book, he left them clues on how to find his secret lair and how to escape his trap. He obviously wants to keep them around to tempt them again into joining the Galdoune Conspiracy. Every Sherlock needs his Moriarty and Fr. Julia fits that bill for Roberto and Joseph.
He mentioned some things about the last mystery that felt like plot holes, but could be pointing to bigger stories down the road. First, he said that the look-alike that he killed was his "failure of a brother." The other thing he said was that the baby he ripped out of the murdered American woman was already serving its purpose. I had induced that they were related as some kind of Bourbon cloning technology, which explained the crayon drawings from the "failure." Perhaps this is Fr. Julia's roundabout way of confirming my speculation.
For this mystery that just got wrapped up, there were still some plot holes that had me scratching my head. It was essentially two mysteries in the same setting. Fr. Trones' past with using cocaine to drive Dominica insane and to kill Carlo so he and Teresa could get together was the explanation for the miracle of the psychedelic Jesus. That was more true than I thought, because it was cocaine in the air that was making people high and seeing weird things with thermo paint Fr. Trones covered the crucifix with. Apparently, he knew nothing about the counterfeiting ring in the old Bourbon gold mine below the Church.
It doesn't explain how he was able to stow aboard a plane and fall out of its landing gear bay in this age of heightened security. His past murder plot also didn't explain the horn sound coming out of the well entrance 32 years ago. There weren't trucks rumbling out of the Bourbon gold mine at that time of night, were there?
Within the Galdoune part of the plot, the Motley Guard chasing down an albino slave was very odd. If Fr. Julia were the head of the guard, and there were many of them, why would he be the one chasing the kid? The sight of him running with the scythe was enough to make the superstitious Fr. Trones run to the well entrance, make a magic circle and then somehow evade airport security. How would Fr. Trones know anything about magical demon seals? Also, how would the albino kid know the code for getting out of the Death Room? Things don't really add up here.
Heh.
Agent Suskins didn't like Bufi's polka dot tie very much. Burn it!
Those poor Morlocks, er, albino slaves. Mining gold for generations until the mine ran dry and then used for biological experiments.
Ha! They thought that agricultural firm was printing indulgences! That's a lot of indulgences! Those Galdoune guys must be huge sinners! It does show how long they've been underground and what little they know of the outside world.
I knew showing that logo in the first episode of this arc was going to mean something.
So, Fr. Trones wasn't involved with the Galdoune counterfeiters at all? Why make a "miracle" from cocaine dust to distract from the horn sound then, if not to hide the trucks rumbling out of the underground facility? Just to hide the existence of a demon in the forest? Well, Fr. Trones was very superstitious, but that feels like a cop-out.
No yaoi couch preview before the last episode. Joseph's little brother is in trouble! I'm sure Fr. Julia will come back to try and make another Devil's Bargain.
