10 Second Anime - Amanchu! - Episode 3

Hikari shows Futaba one of the sites of their town. Ms. Katori welcomes them to the Diving Club.

Episode 3 - "The Story of the Secret to Excitement and Happiness"

Heh.

We had a nice visit with the girls this week where we discovered how self-aware Hikari and Futaba are, but in different ways with different blind spots.

Futaba is so shy and she knows it. Luckily, she's already connected with someone who complements her temperament in Hikari.

Futaba thought Hikari's outgoing personality signaled self-confidence, but Hikari says no! She gets nervous too, but she copes with it by using her whistle and pushing through it.

We've heard Futaba's inner dialogue regarding her emotions, but she sometimes doesn't know why she's feeling them. Hikari is kind of the opposite, where she knows what she's feeling and why, but she can't express herself. Which is why she's excitable and uses that whistle to make noise.

Futaba's and Hikari's walk home provided a great platform for Futaba to connect with her new hometown and for Hikari to dish out her grandma's wisdom as a way to boost Futaba's confidence.

The climb up this hill to see the vista was pretty steep. Futaba is pretty strong to pushing her moped up that beast.

The musical score is still a background character in these scenes too, where a jaunty guitar added to the sense of anticipation and adventure.

Some visual jazz thrown into the episode was the use of the Springtime symbol of the sakura petal. Whenever something good was about to happen, a petal floated into view. It helps that it's still Spring and that the beautiful site Hikari wanted to show Futaba was their town's best grove of sakura trees in full bloom.

Of course, all these scenes were there to dish out Grandma's wisdom about living in the moment.

"Those who are miserable living in the moment will find misery anytime, anywhere. But those who are happy living in the moment will find happiness anytime, anywhere."

The question put to Futaba was whether seeing that tunnel of sakura made her happy. It did, so she's going to be just fine in her new town.

I think both Hikari and her grandma are pretty wise.

Cha the cat wanted to make sure Futaba was okay too. He certainly has no trouble finding happiness anytime, anywhere either.

The second half of the episode offered wisdom in the form of the most important thing to remember while diving.

But first, Katori-sensei had to dish out some discipline for the actions from last week on the girls' raid of the diving clubroom.

Even when Futaba admitted she did it too, Hikari got her punishment! Well-deserved, obviously.

Official business over with, Katori welcomes them to the Diving Club and introduces herself as the faculty advisor.

The two advisors meet. I don't think Katori likes being usurped this way...

All three kids, if you want to call Cha the Cat a kid, wanted to know if they'd be diving right away after joining the club.

Nah. They have to do some studying first.

I was told there would be no math in Healing Anime...

Katori's lesson here concerns air pressure and how a diver needs to regulate their own body's pockets of air, especially air in the head.

Also, we get it. The character designer loves long skirts and tight asses. Not complaining, just pointing it out.

What was nice to watch during this whole exchange was how familiar both Hikari and Katori got with each other and with Futaba. At one point, Katori-sensei was using both "Pikari" and "Teko."

The life lesson is, which doubles as the most important rule of diving, "Never stop breathing." It's the easiest way to regulate the lungs' air pressure in descending and ascending, plus it's something that needs to be done anyway to keep living, underwater or not.

It's not just "Teko" saying "Pikari" out loud. It's all the blushing out loud!

The advisors could only share a look and shrug. Is Katori acknowledging Cha's status?

Never stop breathing and find happiness living in the moment. Good advice from Healing Anime.
