10 Second Anime - Valkyrie Drive Mermaid - Episode 6

Meifon shows the seedy underbelly of Mermaid Island and how easily "criminals" can turn on each other.

Episode 6 - "No Money, No Life"

Heh.

I take it there's not a lot of over arching story to tell in this show, so having another side story featuring Meifon and what passes for the criminal class is just a way to tick off another episode before we get to the 9th episode to introduce the season ending drama.

Meifon's criminal organization includes all the pieces you need to run illegal gambling and a black market. You need the fence and bookmaker Meifon, the insider to cook the books Futaba and the security officer to allow access and look the other way Hyoko.

This gang falls apart just as easily when an overzealous corrupt prosecutor's side interests jeopardize the insiders' peace of mind. That would be Charlotte wanting to win a beauty contest.

Watching Mirei slowly catch on that Mamori and Meifon were recruiting her to join the beauty contest to win something for Mamori was just fun all the way around.

Would Mirei say no to that face? Of course not!

A beauty contest fish out of water story needs a training montage!

You need situps to make that small waist smaller!

You need proper posture to do what Meifon calls a "hip up" to accentuate that butt!

Apparently, Mirei's "hip up" was too much for the censors...

Obviously Meifon couldn't demonstrate what a "bust up" was, but I think Mirei got the idea.

I still don't understand how these girls who live outside the castle were supposed to survive without a gray market, but I turned off my brain a while ago to keep watching this show. What matters is that the Gouverneur tolerates the differing lifestyles and every resident of the island is welcome to attend this anime's version of a school festival. There's a formula to these things to keep horny otaku bastards watching (like me...)

The beauty contest, which Meifon needs a dark horse to win to collect big moniez on long odds betting, has an evening gown competition. The first few suggestions from Mamori, Torino and Meifon said more about their own backgrounds than what they thought it would take for Mirei to win.

Mamori was your typical cutesy girl, Torino was some kind of school teacher and Meifon still thinks about her Western Japanese roots which was heavily influenced by China.

And then they got silly, showing off their actual interests.

Meifon has a nurse fetish and Torino is much more of an adult than the school age children she spends her time with. Mamori just likes cute things, like kitty cats, but Mirei wouldn't win in a cat mascot costume.

Mirei absolutely rejected the one costume the three all agreed on: dressing like the Gouverneur.

Lady J was last year's dark horse winner who made Charlotte so angry and Meifon so much money.

She didn't need any "bust up" exercises.

Mirei wowed the crowd. I'm surprised she took off her black gloves.

And the winner was... Charlotte with a bunch of vote-rigging help from Hyoko and Futaba.

I found it hilarious that Meifon revealed herself to be an Arm and that her Liberator is a wad of cash that she rubs on herself to turn herself on. That the armor slowly degrades in a splash of coins was the real kicker.

Geh.

Charlotte did the heavy lifting for the nude fanservice, but the new girls helped out too when they needed to fight against Mirei and Mamori. Mamori is getting much more comfortable getting sexually aroused in front of people to turn into Mirei's weapon. It's still really not viable to have these girls fight in the real world if they have to take a break to get turned on and powered up.

Charlotte really likes that bathtub.

Those attendants don't seem to mind "servicing" her either.

The fight was on! Futaba go!

Hyoko go!

In the end, Meifon was able to take her betrayers on by herself. Unfortunately she went broke doing it.

Well, we learned more about Meifon and a bit about the culture of the island, but not much else about escaping it. It's a good thing Mamori got that big plushy cat though. I think any of the other girls would have preferred the 12 cans of peaches. You can trade a lot of favors with a can of peaches on this island. For a plushy cat that only Mamori has heard of? Not so much.
