10 Second Anime - Shokugeki no Soma - Episode 22

The judges choose the top four from B Block, with a surprise and sentimental finalist.

Episode 22 - "The One Who Surpasses the Ordinary"

Heh.

Wow. They finished off judging 6 characters in one episode.

I really appreciated the contrast between Miyoko and Megumi. Both wanted to enter a male dominated field in their respective hometowns, but they did it in different ways.

Miyoko decided to do it by force. Pineapple Attack! I hadn't noticed that the one judge was wearing a Chinese style suit, but it made sense that she would be punching him to emphasize her goal.

Meanwhile, all the rough looking fishermen came to cheer on "their Megumi." Gotta love those hometown feels. I just got an attack of "healing anime" in my shounen tournament genre.

Five of the contestants got their "special attack" scene along with their title card. Megumi did not. Boo!

Fresh and spicy orange powered Yuki!

Attack of the killer tomato juice. Splash!

Neat leafcutter. Takumi's curry pasta dish was the most like Alice's. It didn't look like much, just regular fettucine, especially compared to his brother's calzone, but the taste and how even the noodles were prepared were like alchemy.

Alice is definitely a "my pace" character.

When she first worked her molecular gastronomy at the training camp, she made the effort to make her offering look like normal food. Not this time.

I guess Alice's wink counts as a special attack. Everything on that plate was curry food. It seems like the problem with Alice's flavor is that it's so deconstructed that the people eating it can't even come up with an image to base their foodgasms on. They just have to say it's delicious.

I liked all the cards, but Yuki's made me laugh. The big bad wolf better watch out for this Little Red Riding Hood. My, what a big shotgun you have!

That's so Megumi! The judges had already started thinking of the tie breaker for Miyoko and Isami when Megumi had to intrude.

The judges' foodgasm was perfect. Megumi's curry hotpot tasted like going home.

The way Megumi's final tally was revealed, interspersed with her flashbacks, was well done. Feels were had. Fists were pumped.

What was up with the two other judges? They had no personality at all.

Hisako's cooking may have ended Nao's stalking of Erina, but it just got transferred over to her. Losing by winning.

At this pace, will we see two episodes for A Block, or three? They've only got 7 characters to deal with, but with Souma and the curry master Akira, we should be taking our time. In B Block, the only ones we hadn't seen any hint of their cooking was Nao and Yuki, but in A Block, we've seen barely anything except for Akira, Souma and Ikumi. I'm looking forward to what the other four will cook for the judges.
