10 Second Anime - Ore Monogatari!! - Episode 18

Rinko wants her and Takeo's first kiss to happen on his birthday. It's a moment they'll never forget.

Episode 18 - "My Birthday"

Heh.

For an episode that was supposed to cover the sweet moment of Rinko and Takeo's first kiss, there were quite a few laugh out loud moments. As expected.

The story centers around New Year's Day, which also happens to be Takeo's birthday, so we're not too far away from the Christmas episode from last week.

That Kurihara guy is acting all experienced and stuff. Rinko and Takeo end up only a week behind them, so he shouldn't act so superior.

Every episode so far has begun with Takeo introducing himself, so when it started out with Kurihara describing his and Nanako's first kiss, I was rolling.

Making Rinko wait two years before their first kiss is too long, Takeo!

You know, if it wasn't for Kurihara, Takeo and Rinko would have had their first kiss months ago. I guess Takeo and Rinko are too nice to mention the lip-lock-blocking incident at the beach.

Ai doesn't want to think about Takeo's first kiss either. She still needs to get hers. And let's not talk about Suna's first kiss. It doesn't count, it doesn't count, it doesn't count!

Takeo's Birthday Gift Stuffed Bear Can't Be This Cute!

Those fortunes at the shrine described the entire relationship of Takeo and Rinko so far. Rinko, with small good luck, has to take the initiative in the romance department. Takeo, with great good luck, has to sleep on it and wait for good news. We've had 18 episodes of this.

Takeo's mom knew what was up. She even gave Rinko a time limit. A lot can happen in 5 hours! Too bad most of that was spent with Takeo's friends coming over.

It was understandable that Takeo didn't realize Rinko had kissed him with his eyes closed. So romantic, though! Kyaa! Rinko so bold! Takeo made up for it in the end. Good job all the way around for those two.

Takeo's dad was drinking port a little early in the morning, don't you think?

I like how naturally the story flows in this show. It's New Year's, so of course Ai would come home from college. Having her there to offer more advice to Rinko on physical intimacy just made so much sense and offered a way to get more laughs.

Usually in anime when someone says a moment is something they'll never forget, it's a death flag for one of the pair. Not in this show, though.

You can tell this is a deconstructed shoujo story because Takeo asked a very practical and unromantic question in the epilogue - When do you go for the second kiss?

Suna's suggestion of reading Rinko's feelings would be bad news for him. Takeo wanted to practice seeing a yes or no to kissing, and ha! Suna said, "There's never going to be a yes from me!" His pragmatic solution of kissing on anniversaries or holidays still had the modest Takeo blushing in anticipation.
