10 Second Anime - Aoharu x Kikanjuu - Episode 1

Translated - "Aoharu and Machine Gun." Hotaru Tachibana, a girl who likes to dress like a boy, meets a sketchy club host Masamune Matsuoka and ends up on his airsoft survival game team.

Episode 1 - "Let's Start This Deathless Death Match"

First Thoughts

What if you took Tsugumi from Nisekoi, made her school president, but didn't let her play with real guns? That was the first question I asked myself after seeing Tachibana jump out a window, check herself for looking cool and proclaim herself an enemy of evildoers. It helps that the main character has the same voice actress as Tsugumi.

I was wary of the concept, because this reverse trap didn't appear to have a cute side, but my doubts were assuaged in the first few minutes. Her best friend Kanae was a great help in this regard. However, could I handle watching an airsoft anime for a third Summer in a row? After seeing the action sequences, yes.

Heh.

The title is kind of odd. 青春 is pronounced seishun and means "springtime of youth," but separately, the kanji can be pronounced ao and haru respectively. Why the creators specifically asked readers to pronounce it this way, I don't know. Blue Spring? What's up with that.

Tachibana is a bit mixed up for a high school girl. Like many feminine or childishly feminine characters, she refers to herself by her name, instead of watashi or atashi or uchi or even the boyish boku, but instead of her given name she uses her surname. That struck me as odd and fitting at the same time.

Tachibana is totally Tsugumi.

Well, not totally. She's lacking in the chest area, much to her shame.

Tachibana's girly friend Kanae serves as a great foil to our reverse trap. She also let us know early on what her weakness is.

In Tachibana's world, skirts chase her, not the other way around.

Masamune has special perceptive powers, which makes him a good club host, I guess.

After watching Stella Jogakuin Koutouka C3-bu and Sabagebu! I'm pretty used to the made up jargon this show is going to throw at me, but it will still be fun to see skirmish tactics. I think Masamune's team is going to start doing really well, as long the other teams don't rush at them holding a skirt.
