10 Second Anime - Shokugeki no Soma - Episode 13



Assigned to design a new breakfast entrée, Souma appears to struggle. New characters introduced for the Summer season.

Hey, can you tell this season is almost over and it's time for the show to continue into the next one? Me neither. Oh, except for Isshiki having bad dreams and tantalizingly quick scenes of new characters.

Helloooo China Red Dress! And who's the creepy stalker looking at Erina? Summertime is looking interesting!

 

Yuuki says she'll bring victory back to the Polar Dormitory.

Megumi is slightly less enthusiastic.

 

Souma's rivals are now rivals. Did that sound right?

Poor Ikumi. She still can't talk to Souma without blushing. Souma's response to Takumi and Ikumi's questions about his shokugeki was classic. "I lost. I don't want to talk about it."

 

Ha! Takumi way in the distance pointing and yelling and Souma not caring at all.

Ikumi still has them, uh, I mean, it. Knife skillz, yo.

 

Erina was up for her next difficult challenge - beating Hisaki at card games.

Erina is still Erina, though. Especially when it comes to talking to Souma.

Yeah, and him too, the other way.

Souma makes Erina wiggle her hips on their own. Hmm, that sounded like a quote from a doujin...

Yeah, Souma is kind of oblivious to subtle sarcasm.

 

Still, we know who the queen is in this show.

Eggs Benedict may be the King of Breakfasts, but when Erina added extra sparkly salmon roe, she became the Queen of Breakfast.

 

Somebody we haven't seen before thinks Erina's reign as queen won't last forever. Duh, she'll graduate at some point. I only know this person's name is Alice Nakiri because I read the news of who was cast as her voice. I guess we're not supposed to know her name or how she's related to Erina until the Summer season starts.

She still needed practice handling a lackey.

Well, she certainly looks related to Erina considering how she fills out her chef's uniform.

I just wanted to say hello again. Plus, funky left arm.

Hmm.

Everything about this episode screamed "transitional." That's not a bad thing, but it also made me care a little less about what was happening. Featuring some scenes at the Polar Dormitory was a nice way of seeing some fun characters again. Souma's flashback of his dad, even when it was related to the plot, let us see him one more time. I did like Takumi and Ikumi getting mad at Souma for almost being expelled before they could settle things, then forming their own rivalry was a fun touch. But we had the manufactured cliffhanger.

 

Granted, they told it well. The new character Alice (whose name we're not supposed to know yet) and Erina both showed misgivings about Souma's idea of adding a soufflé texture to an omelet, plus his not being familiar with buffet style serving conditions is ample foreshadowing for tension. But come on. That Alice girl had not even served one egg dish yet while others were finishing up their quota. Not only that, we have a scene in the opening credits of Souma flipping a whole row of omelets. I've got no tension moving into the next episode.

 

That's okay, though. I'm already bored with this harsh examination camp and I'm looking forward to seeing the new characters back at school. Let's get to the Summer season already!
