Ryou feels stress over her school's upcoming sports day festival. Kirin hopes the lunch she makes for her serves as comfort food.

Heh.

I'm beginning to question Ryou's objectivity as a gourmet. Hee. Not really. She's always come from the school of cooking where the most important spice was Love, so seeing Kirin put so much effort into making her lunch, and then tasting a mediocre but edible meal still had Ryou experiencing foodgasms. The other girls, not so much.

So that's what Kirin's "meh" face looks like. She shouldn't be so disappointed with her cooking. Even Shiina's delicate stomach kept the food down. These girls shouldn't be expecting food tingles with every meal.

Kirin's little popping footstep sounds only happen when she's wearing shoes. Interesting. Is that because they don't fit properly since she's so small?

 

We know that Kirin is freakishly strong, so it shouldn't be a surprise that she's a great athlete too. Plus, she finally gets to be better at something than Ryou, who is a super klutz. No wonder she needed all that comfort food from her grandma.

Yes, freakishly strong...

 

I finally noticed that the little picture of food on Ryou's calendar we see each episode features the signature dish from the previous episode. Mind blown.

Oh, come on, Ryou. I'm not that slow. And Kirin isn't going to buy all the wrong things either.

Hmm, maybe Ryou should worry a little.

 

Hey, look! Koufuku Graffiti gets its own building.

Right next to the grocery store, of course.

Kirin got all fired up to be cooking for Ryou.

I liked the little reminder that Ryou and Kirin are related when Kirin's mom told her about the lemon boiled sweet potatoes Ryou's grandma used to make. I wonder if that was the only thing she could make well before she became a great cook while taking care of Ryou. Even better, Kirin's mom admitted that asking her dad how to make it would be for the best.

 

All that harsh training paid off for Ryou. She didn't get hit in the face by a ball and she didn't sprain an ankle when she ran.

Of course, she ran so slowly that she placed last, but she was so happy to hold the last place flag because it was the first time she didn't fall or get hurt. Life's little victories...

 

 

Hmm.

This show's characters keep building on what has happened before. Kirin started cooking and wants to be more dependable and share the cooking duties with Ryou. But cooking for Ryou all by herself is definitely going to the next level. While she didn't impress impartial judges, like Ryou's friends or even herself and Shiina, the food she made wasn't terrible either.

 

Luckily of Kirin, Ryou knew all about the hard work she put in, plus she replicated the meals her grandma made at her other horrible sports day festivals. The memories of comfort and the spice of love was all Ryou needed to go into ecstasy over passable food.
