Cross Ange - Episode 21
Ange's side suffers setbacks during her rescue from Embryo.
Heh.
Oh boy, things are getting as serious and shocking as the first 3 episodes of this series. I'm still in shock over the ending.
We've had some minor characters die during the middle of the story, but now that we're approaching the end, all sorts of bad things are happening.
A living zombie army powered by mana - that's not creepy at all.
Interesting that Embryo calls the original people of that world "monkeys." Compared to the mitochondrial drift of all his experiments on the new mana users, I guess they are that evolutionarily backward.
Tusk figured out that Embryo has to die to move around in time and space, which means he is using all sorts of different versions of himself from different worlds, but only one can occupy any one world at a time. However, just moving around in space doesn't require death. Maybe the end game for this show is to stick Embryo in a confinement chamber like Aura.
Chris' reasons for finding a "real friend" in Embryo are as petty and delusional as one could expect. That's just sad.
Ange is a black widow! Whomever she kisses ends up dying!
Tusk did that Japanese crap of making sure the last time someone sees you before you die is with a smile on your face. Damn you, Tusk!
Geh.
People were dying violently and shockingly like in the first three episodes. Chris just sliced that new girl in half like that DRAGON did for the girl who gave Ange pudding. Her soul is tainted now. You can't be redeemed for something like that in a narrative arc.
I wonder if Embryo is going to bother resurrecting all those little kids that Ersha was taking care of. Hell, it may have even been one of her shots that killed them. Their Ragna-mails have those powerful green lasers.
Oh man, and Momoka and Tusk bit it hard. Tusk triggered a suicide bomb jacket and Momoka had a car explode on top of her after being shot through the chest. Has all the plot armor been removed? Is there going to be some happy resolution by either Aura or Embryo before the show is over?
Meh.
Okay, we know how quickly Embryo can move around, but how did Tusk get to that cliffside location? Ange and Momoka rode his little transport there, and he can't use mana so he couldn't have stolen a car. How did he get there?
Hmm.
We're going to need an episode after this one to regroup, retrench and manage the fallout. The Vilkiss is in a lake. Tusk and Momoka are supposedly dead. Ange is back with the Libertas. Ersha and Chris may face a betrayal by Embryo in their fake relationships, but he can always just mind control them like he did Ange. Riza finally made it back to the dragon ladies.
I expect a transitional episode next time with some revelations for the endgame. I really don't know what the scrappy Norma are going to do about an unkillable foe. They really can only hope to contain Embryo. Perhaps Alektra will finally let go of her vengeance trip and figure something out from what Ange saw in that last battle. For sure, Ange is going to be hit hard by the loss of her longtime friend and newfound lover. Look for tears, and maybe some moping.
