Junketsu no Maria - Episode 11
Maria rescues Joseph from his fight with Galfa. The battle for the town ends soon after.
Heh.
They say love is powerful, but this is ridiculous!
Cernunnos thinks Maria just had a crisis of confidence. A magical being needs to believe in itself first before it can have any power. That sounds okay, but I'm not sure it's that simple with Maria. Once she got a big dose of love and happiness, bladam!
Shouting from the hilltops that you've found love is such an innocent thing to do! Summoning forth all sorts of forgotten beings, not so much.
Joseph is too serious.
Maria wanted a happy reaction out of their victory over Galfa, but Joseph went a little crazy with anger after Galfa was knocked down and he was a bit ashamed that he went to fight and that Maria found out. She was supposed to be stuck in a cell until he got back. It was great fodder for their first lover's quarrel.
The owls knew what was going on.
Maria wants Joseph to stay by her side, and yes, that did sound like a marriage proposal. Joseph got the hint. Good man.
Is this Lolotte woman supposed to be human? Getting strong from hauling around discarded armor can't explain how she picked Galfa up and walked out of the church with him on her shoulder. A large man in medium weight armor? Something is up with this lady.
Bernard was totally into writing his new treatise. His tone with Gilbert as he asked about his dealings with witches was classic. "Oh? You're still making mouth noises about those boring things?" The intellectual exercise of using witches and other worldly devices to end a war was over for Bernard. On to the next thing.
Ha! We had seen Edwina's cat in human form before! She was the one who gave all the chemicals and medicines to Gilbert. The Inquisitor was just as tainted Bernard. At least we know the medicine they gave to Margaret was good though, because it was the same stuff Maria always gave her.
Beating swords into plowshares is a well known biblical reference for a prophecy of peace, but I don't think the Church would be happy to see weapons of war converted into a huge witch's cauldron. Especially with what popped out of there!
I wonder if Cernunnos is supposed to be a forgotten forest deity, which is why he coveted Maria's power. Certainly, when Maria got her groove back, the forest around her cabin grew back, plus her cabin itself was restored and that whole city under siege became a huge forest too. Maria always said she found herself in the forest and the end credits portray her growing up as a little witch there.
Hmm.
Next episode, we're going to see the final confrontation between Maria and Michael. I don't think it's going to be particularly violent, though. How many fights with an angel start out with, "Look! I've got a boyfriend now!" Supposedly, Maria would still lose her powers if she's no longer a virgin, but I wonder if that only applies to unchaste actions. Sex within a blessed marriage is an expression of chaste love. If Maria and Joseph receive the sacrament of Marriage together, loving each other physically does not break Maria's chastity - it's an action of that chastity.
Well, that stuff only matters if Maria has been baptized in the Church. Perhaps that's something else that will be revealed in the final episode. Also to be revealed is what Bernard comes up with in his treatise. As a bishop, he even has authority over the actions of the angels. I'm curious to see if this is brought into play too.
A virgin witch in love is a powerful being. I wonder if Maria will stay that way to the end of the series.
