Still, Lee showed that a ninja can only go so far without a teacher or a rival. Lee had way more experience in fighting different ways because of Gai, and having a rival like Neji improved his analytical skills in the middle of combat.

 

I never thought I'd see Lee get frustrated with Gai.

Gai won back his unreserved affection pretty quickly by showing how a more experienced fighter can tire out a more fit fighter by treating a fight like a chess match. This is how you create openings for the opportunistic strike.

 

It was a good match. Shira realized who Gaara was talking about when he described a taijutsu use from Konoha who was able to strike him. Lee offered Shira his ultmate prize!

Tenten reacted as only she could.

 

It's moments like these that I really miss Lee's spinoff show.

Friendship and rivalry aside, the main story advanced a little with the Sand village discovering the Hidden Waterfall ninjas are not genins testing for chuunin status. As a Jinchuuriki, he was immediately suspicious and investigated them by himself. Fuu immediately found his remote sand eye, which confirmed for him that Fuu was a Jinchuuriki. What will he do? This is national security level type stuff.

 

Gai's group isn't finished with their test either because they have two of the same scroll instead of one of each. Filler Shippuuden continues, with just a few seconds of Neji thinking of Naruto as his rival. Next time, we check in with Kurenai's team and see what new tricks they've learned. It's always nice to see Hinata and hear her soothing voice.
