Cross Ange - Episode 18

Ange reconnects with the survivors of Arzenal and learns much has happened. Alektra and Ange disagree on strategy for defeating Embryo.

Meh.

There was some terrible animation going on for the first half of the episode. Characters' faces were out of proportion and colors were flat. Not until Tusk's Plan B went into action did we start seeing normal production levels again.

Heh.

Oh, they were in that submarine. That's why Momoka's rescue team was in diving suits.

Lots of things changed while Ange was away with the dragon ladies. Embryo took three para-mail pilots and stuck them in the original Ragna-mails he still had, but the Libertas crew don't know why Salia, Ersha and Chris defected. I assume it was because of the life saving for Ersha and Chris, and perhaps some statsu climbing for Salia to pilot a ship like Vilkiss.

Emma knows what to do when things turn sour - Drink! Strange that her military uniform is mainly a strapless dress with a coat, but I suppose the mana users don't need to concern themselves with being so physically active in their duties.

Some things have stayed the same for Ange. Like shower scenes.

Okay, fine, not very well animated shower scenes, but we were at least reminded that this is a mecha action show with an ecchi exploitation wrapper. The difference here is Hilda missing Ange so much and developing romantic or sexual feelings for her. Prison changes a woman, especially when they share a cell...

Ha! Vivian knew about Plan B but Ange didn't. Soldiers know how to keep opsec.

We got an explanation for why Vivian was always sucking on a lollipop - it was her dragon suppression medicine. Also, Vivian's dragon parts were cut off when she was first discovered to have her fit in with the other kids. How mean!

Rosalie still gets no respect.

Hmm.

Alektra's personality was definitely consistent. She didn't even care about the dragons being responsible for so many deaths, like Rosalie was, but just how to use them in the best way to distract Embryo enough to kill him. There's definitely something more personal about her hatred for him than just losing her arm.

I wonder if Ange would have had a better argument with her instead of a knife fight if they had treated each other like the royalty they used to be. Salamandine treated her like a princess instead of cannon fodder, and they were able to convey their different opinions about their how to treat their two different worlds. Alektra has been through too much and even when she explained to the Norma who she used to be, she still commanded them as if she were their jailer.

Even her senior comrades don't think she's acting rationally when they've only got one ship and a few flying vessels, when they could negotiate for resources and consult for an attack plan. As if the dragon ladies would just follow Alektra's plan for a slaughter. She didn't own those fighting forces. They were potential allies who know best how to use their military. Her plan was never going to get past the planning stage. Again, this was consistent with her irrational hatred of Embryo and I hope to find out more about its origins.

Besides, getting rid of the mana users main source of power in Aura would make things easier in getting to Embryo. We don't know if he needs Aura too, although it's possible that he used the dragunium mineral to jump between worlds.

Next time, we may even see those origins. Ange apparently gets captured, but Embryo appears to be controlling her perceptions. Maybe even Salia and the other traitors too. Quite a bit of plot going on here, in between knife fights, shower scenes, and Momoka's good cooking.
