Yuri Kuma Arashi - Episode 1
Set in an all-girl school whose world's bears have been turned into intelligent man-eaters by an alien race of bears, two new students hunt for prey. Literally Lily Bear Storm. Season premiere.
First Thoughts.
My first thought was "wat?" Followed by "what did I just see?" Yuri (ユリ) is literally lily in Japanese, but is code for lesbians and a specific genre of otaku visual media. As I watched the show, with its depictions of alien bears transforming into humans behind anti-bear walls, I thought I almost saw a plot. But then that scene with the trial showed up, deciding whether the girl bears would be allowed to "eat" or eat the lesbian girl main character. Wat. So, this isn't a yuri show with flashy visuals like Mariaholic, or a show using its light premise as a vehicle for gags and *those* scenes like Sakura Trick. This is a crazy show which I don't know what it's doing yet. The lesbians are good. The bears are cute. I don't know what this storm is about. I'll have to see what my Second Thoughts are for the next episode.
Eh?!
Who are these guys? And what is going on here?
Heh.
I thought I got where this show was going when I saw Kureha start doing this.
And even yuri kuma mahou shoujo would have fit a man vs beast kind of show.
Magical lesbian bear girls Ginko and Lulu would have made sense outside of the strange trial they had, but now I don't know if this is real, or what.
I like how the show identifies all the yuri girls. And it's not just because they have Yuri as part of their names either. Does this mean each of those girls are going to be targeted to be "eaten." It's even hilarious to me that I still have to put "eaten" in scare quotes because I don't know if they're really eating girls yet.
Geh.
I have to remember this really didn't happen, but the, ah, symbolism isn't really symbolism at this point.
