The torpedo girls are suffering low morale. Fubuki goes on a mission with the Kongou sisters and learns the importance of consoling friends.

Heh.

Fubuki's image of an elegant lady for Kongou died a pretty quick death. She still has eyes for Akagi, but I think that's because she didn't notice that she has a thing for popping bubble wrap. I'm beginning to think none of the ship girls are normal...

 

Shimakaze is supposed to be a fast destroyer, but the character is also hyper and has a very short attention span.

 

Kongou may be crazy, and who wouldn't from being born in Britain before being transferred to Japan, but her sisters are just as crazy... for her.

 

I find it hilarious when voice actors try to mimic an English speaker trying to use Japanese, but it just sounds like slower louder Japanese with sprinkled in English words spoken with a Japanese accent. Apparently, saying bad English words doesn't get censored... Yes, she actually said "Shit!"

I'll tell you, the only time I ever heard English spoken with an American accent by a seemingly native speaker was in a kid show called Shugo Chara!. Don't judge me - it was a cute show!

 

Kongou is crazy... for the admiral!



She will hug anything in her way! To show her burning love for the admiral!

 



Meanwhile, her sister ships made a stealthy entrance.

 



But that was only so their big flashy entrance would have more impact!

 



Yup. Those fast battleships of the Kongou class have their own special charm.

 



Shimakaze just does her own thing.

 



Hyper and no attention span. Plus, she brings her own dolls to play with, never mind that those little guys are deadly weapons in their own right.

 

This whole scene was barely contained chaos. Nagato shows her exasperation while Mutsu stifles her giggles.

 



 

The eye catch is all about Kongou, naturally.

 



 

All that work to catch an airheaded Shimakaze, when they just should have started with the food. An idol concert was only going to catch a wannabe idol and picture book of Kongou was only going to catch one of her sisters. Like I said, Kongou is crazy, and her sisters are crazy for her.

 

 

Hmm.

This was almost a pure cute girls doing cute things episode, but there was sentimental note to acknowledge the missing Kisaragi. Mutsuki was in deep denial about her being sunk and that was bring morale down among the torpedo squadron because they didn't know what to say to make things better. Kongou showed Fubuki the answer. Sometimes you don't have to say anything but just hug someone to show you're there for her. Fubuki did that for Mutsuki and that brought about the catharsis she needed to get going again.

 

We also saw that the older sister types felt the loss too, but they had the experience to keep doing their jobs. Still, it was a good reminder for the audience that Nagato may be stern on the outside, but her sister ship Mutsu knows about the soft gooey center.

 

Mutsuki was feeling better by the end and Fubuki got some more valuable battle experience. Fubuki's image of Kongou may have crashed against reality, but surely her devotion to one of the carrier girls won't take a similar hit. We'll have to see how that goes next time.
