Yowamushi Pedal - Grande Road - Episode 10
After telling Machimiya how Fukutomi recruited him, Arakita blows past Hiroshima, pulling Manami and Onoda with him.
Heh.
Dude. Machimiya. Arakita wants to share a "Bepsi" with you. It's a big honor!Fukutomi comes from the school of kicking people off the dock to teach them how to swim.
Coming from a baseball background, it makes sense that Arakita wants to know what all the rules are for his first race. "Cross the finish line first" or "catch up to me" are not really rules, Fuku-chan...
I like how younger versions of Shinkai and Toudou just have bigger eyes.
Naturally, the worst thing about the new guy is not being rude or messy, it's that he made fun of Toudou's headband. The worst!
Machimiya broke up with his girlfriend Kana-chan to concentrate on cycling? The worst! You made a girl cry! You can't protect her smile that way! Ahem. I've forgotten I'm watching sports anime gilded with fujoshi lilts. I'll try to keep that in mind.
Arakita's bromance with Fukutomi was everything I hoped it would be. Fukutomi is an awkward bastard who never says enough. Well, he says just enough.
That was a cool moment when Fukutomi said he was only riding for second. And then drop the bomb! Because Arakita's going to win! Awww yeah!
Hah. We even got Arakita calling someone else strong like Fukutomi.
First race means just spinning your wheels to finish.
Hmm.
It was great to see the Mad Mutterer's cycling origin story. He took the main piece of advice from Fukutomi, that to make a bike go fast you must face forward, and added the motivations backed by his strong will to become a great cyclist. Wanting to be faster. Wanting to beat that other guy. Having fun. Facing forward.Machimiya was facing backwards, obsessing over his bad luck. And he wasn't having fun either. Arakita saw him lacking those pieces, but he also saw the potential. Machimiya is still someone he could buy a "Bepsi" for.
We've got a few groups strung out between the three leaders and the peloton. Hiroshima is all together, but they don't have the legs to catch up to the front. The remnants of Hakone and Sohoku are a little ways behind them. Arakita is pulling Manami and Onoda to the front. Kyoto is going to be totally outmanned very soon with a huge mountain ahead. Is it time to hear Ishigaki's story? We still don't know how he got to Midousuji, so maybe that will be cleared up.
Cycling Porn.
We've got good looks at Arakita's borrowed Bianchi, the black chromoly he used for base training, more Ridley branding, Fukutomi's Giant, Machimiya's Colnago, Hiroshima's Cannondales, and redlining in a breakaway.
Arakita blew himself up catching up to Fukutomi and Shinkai. Kids, don't do this at the beginning of the race.
Actually, in recent years, the pro peloton has to deal with a lot of fast racing very soon after their neutral start as the day's breakaway tries to establish itself. Until the peloton likes the guys in that front group, they'll keep chasing them down, getting up to sprint finale speeds in the opening kilometers of a race. Sometimes they'll keep chasing like that for over an hour until they're happy with guys they think they can control in the breakaway.
Also, don't throw your nice bike on the ground. That's uncouth.
