Yowamushi Pedal - Grande Road - Episode 1
Translated: Weakling Pedal. Yowamushi Pedal tells the story of a first year high school student who joins the cycling club because of his habit of riding his bike 45 km to Akihabara every week. Grande Road continues the story from the first season.
Heh.
Three minutes to recap the Inter-High Road Race so far, then the opening credits. Yes! It's like we never left the guys of Yowamushi Pedal. Has it really been 3 months? Yes it has... *sniff*The ominous Phase 49 from last season was just spoiling tactics by one guy acting like a douchebag. Kyoto did this on the first day when Onoda scooted around Midousuji. It served its purpose: to give Arakita something else to complain about!
Mizuta is trying to act like Midousuji, but even that freak knows he doesn't have it in him. As he says to himself, a race is about deception, even to your own teammates. Well, this only gets Arakita muttering madly about how tired he is about dragging the real leadout man to join their designated finisher.
Yo. How you doin'?
Hakone's strategy here is sound. Arakita worked real hard the day before, so recovery on a climbing day was the best thing for him. I figure Shinkai was feeling extra frisky to try to take the sprint line, but he had lots in reserve for the finale. This is why he was a little ragged on the climb trying to follow Arakita: he burned a match too early. Looks like he's feeling much better now, and he's getting serious for the finish line. He actually put away his Calorie Mate block!
It's a good thing cameras aren't following around these high school kids, because Midousuji would be penalized all his placing points and a few seconds of time as well for intentionally trying to crash another rider. When riders are vying for position and space in the last 500 meters of a race, that's one thing. But on a descent with plenty of road far from the line, that's reckless endangerment.
Hey, great dramatic plot point, but from where Ishigaki was crashing into the barriers at that speed, there is no way Midousuji could have grabbed his jersey to regain his balance. Unless he did some other freaky alien move on his "De Lose" bike to stop in time and then to regain his speed. Freak. He's the last guy that should be calling anyone a zombie.
I thought Attack on Titan hadn't started up again yet...
Midousuji is out of tricks against the aces and their assistants. Time to go with Plan B: beat them straight up. Huh. We'll see how that goes. Kinjou wouldn't have it any other way.
We've got 1200 meters to go starting next episode. I wonder how many episodes that distance will be dragged out.
Hmm.
I hope Ishigaki isn't setting himself up to be sacrificed in the last few hundred meters. My ears always prick up when one of the Kyoto team thinks they share anything in common with Midousuji, so it sounds like dark foreshadowing when Ishigaki thinks he and Midousuji share the same passion for the finish line. As Midousuji keeps saying, a race is about deception.Cycling Porn.
We quickly get reacquainted with all the bike brands that we saw last season. Apparently, the only manufacturer to sign on for a licensing deal isn't even featured in the race. Cannondale, that's cool and all, but Teshima won't be seen riding his bike for a loooong time in this show. Man, I still laugh at how De Rosa got turned into De Lose. That's some fucked up shit right there. Or how Raleigh turned into Answer, because Toudou's Ridley was already turned into Redkey. Oh well, I'm still happy I'm seeing some furious pedaling action. A part of me wants this race over already, just so we can see new guys and their new equipment. The idea of seeing a POC helmet on a high school kid just tickles the hell out of me.
I've almost forgotten how good you are at this. No wait, I think you've gotten better!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Are you starting your Yowamushi binge? There's lots to catch up on. And thanks for the compliments!
DeleteThanks Joe. Better not binge this time, I watched the first three episodes yesterday, taking a break from lots of Dark Souls and sipping some wine - and it's a little too much, it works definitely better if I check the post right away.
ReplyDeletePlaying catch up then, but I've been eyeing with interest a post of yours about another series, maybe I'll give that a try too.
Ooh, which one? I know it's a decent one (according to my tastes) because I won't write about it unless I enjoy it. I'm just curious to know what else you'd actually watch besides sports anime.
DeleteDurarara, it looked a little weird and I like weird things that are also clever and/or fun.
ReplyDeleteThat show is a fun ride. I strongly suggest you start with the first season, otherwise the current episodes won't make much sense. They don't make much sense NOW, but that's cuz the show is CA-RAZY. What is good about this crazy fun show is that they periodically catch you up because they know there's just too many characters, and each of the seemingly random side stories all come back together for the main story. Durarara really doesn't put a foot wrong in its presentation. Good choice!
