Finds from the Grind - The Descent from Chantry Flat

The Descent from Chantry Flat

Yesterday, I posted the slow, agonizing climb up Santa Anita Canyon to Chantry Flat. Needless to say, the descent is much quicker, however it is dangerous. Not just because of the steepness, but because of the traffic. The parking lot at the top is very small, and cars like to treat the upper slopes of Santa Anita Canyon Road as if it were a mall parking lot where they'll wait for an opening up against a cliffside. Also, the pedestrians walking around on the road make the cars give them a wide berth, which is dangerous for cyclists coming around a blind curve to find a truck nudged over the yellow divider. It's a fun descent, but just know what you're getting into and realize you really can't push it on those right-hand curves.
