Locodol - Episode 11

The Nagarekawa Girls attend Locodol Festival and meet other groups. The popular Awa Awa Girls realize they're only selling themselves instead of promoting their town.

Heh.

Nanako sure is fixated on the dangerous and menial jobs they've had to do for the local cable commercials. The first thing she wants to ask the the Awa Awa Girls is what was their most dangerous job.

Apparently, Nagarekawa's specialties are the things Nanako's uncle kept stocking her family's fridge with: orange jellies and sweet rice wine cider. At least they have some kind of meat-filled croquette, which is a bit too hot to eat on a hot day.

The Eye Catch wants you to eat croquettes and orange jellies, while drowning in rice wine cider...

At least I think that's what Yukari and Nanako are selling.

According to Miyako of the Awa Awa girls, Yukari is high-priced goods with cheap wrapping, while Nanako looks normal in a t-shirt. She's not wrong.

The girls always want to know what the special foods are for the region they're visiting.

Nanako wants to eat "M-myaargh." Why couldn't Nagoya have more than 3 specialties?

Besides actually doing their jobs in promoting their town, unlike Local Idols who have become actual idols, the Nagarekawa Girls also know how to draw the children. They're not just girls with t-shirts selling stuff. They're also a water drop with a minnow strapped to its back.

Kids love the Uogokoro-kun.

Nanako and Yukari are nervous the night before their big performance, so much so in Nanako's case that she wants to sleep in the same bed as Yukari. Then Yukari becomes nervous for a different reason. The yuri is strong in this one. Mirai and Yui have no worries.

Hmm.

I liked the contrast this episode drew between what a locodol group is supposed to do instead of what an idol group is supposed to do. Nanako's curiosity about what strange stuff the other locodol groups have had to do notwithstanding, the locodols are supposed to promote their city and foster a sense of civic pride. Idols sell themselves and their own merchandise. Instead of singing a song during their allotted stage time during the Locodol Festival, the Nagarekawa Girls advertised their town and their food. At the end of the day, their booth was sold out of everything, while the Awa Awa Girls noticed their booth had only sold out of the group's merchandise, but not the city's. That's the difference between an Idol Group and a Locodol Group.
