Vincenzo Nibali of Team Astana, the new overall leader of the Tour, despite finishing 3rd in 2012, had never won a stage at the Tour, nor had he worn the yellow jersey. That was until his strongman attack on Stage 2 secured his first place finish with a 2 second gap on the select group in the final run into Sheffield.
