Peter Sagan of Team Cannondale showed that he is serious about defending his Green Jersey from last year by gaining points on the intermediate sprint, and then finishing second behind Marcel Kittel of Giant-Shimano. Kittel is technically the Yellow Jersey and Green Jersey holder because of his first place finish at the end of the first stage in Harrogate, but he and Sagan are tied in points at 45 points each. Tomorrow, Sagan will wear the White Jersey, though, as he is the best placed young rider in the overall after one stage.
