Sword Art Online II - Episode 4
Kirito enters GGO, looks like a girl, wins a bunch of money, gets a sword, and rides a motorcycle. Sinon helped.
Heh.
Kirito is already learning which rules to break in this new game. The bullet trail system is supposed to be a defensive assist, but most of the players rely on it too much. Kirito's broken rule number 1: When you see the prediction lines, it's already too late. Years spent inside a melee game with your life on the line definitely honed Kirito's reflexes and his own battle sense.Okay, he looks like a girl, but his avatar is not actually a girl. Run away Sinon! It's a trap!
With how often he was hit on just walking around, I can understand why Kirito opted to let Sinon keep thinking he was a girl. He wasn't some big macho guy to begin with, but now he has to remember to speak more politely. Good call with not going ultra feminine with using "kashira" all the time. Using "desu" instead of "da" is good enough.
Still, it's true, Girls don't gravitate toward gun-oriented games. Freud had some things to say about that, but since his theories on psychology can, at best, be used as analogies for why people do things, let's just say women generally have different motivations for playing games, and gun-oriented shooters are geared towards more object and tool manipulation, which generally attracts men. Sinon has her own therapy related reasons for playing with guns, but she picked up the jargon awfully quick.
Yes, Kirito, it is like a foreign language.
Kirito's inherited stats still favor strength and speed, which translates to carrying heavy gear and agility in GGO, but he doesn't like the sound of that. After taking money from the gambling game, which also showed his method of fighting still works, he wants more agility based weapons.
That quick draw artist wasn't so happy with being outwitted.
Kirito sees that this GGO is still a game based on the Seed of Sword Art Online, so the npc's and monsters still follow the rules he's used to, and that also means things are expensive for a reason. Because most players rely too much on the predictive bullet lines, they can't use the expensive swords. Broken rule number 2 for Kirito: you just have to get close enough.
Just turn the flashlight off, Kirito. No signature sword sheathing in this game. Naturally, he chose black for the sword's color.
Hmm.
Sinon shows Kirito how the aiming reticule works. The circle becomes smaller in two ways: get closer to your target, or slow your heart rate. I think Kirito sees two ways of exploiting these rules here. He's got the getting closer part down for his sword, so he'll have to come up with something for his handgun. For someone used to the quiet slash of melee weapons, I'm not surprised at how shocked he was with how loud the guns are. That also doesn't fit his sneaky rogue back stab style of play.
I'm beginning to see how he's going to use his sword. Without predictive lines, his opponents won't know where he'll strike with the sword, and he can use the handgun's predictive lines to force them into the position he wants.
I wonder if this heart rate thing for the aiming reticule is related to how Death Gun kills people in real life. Hmm, could be!
He has to make himself a target for this Death Gun guy, so he wants to win this Bullet of Bullets tournament. Exploiting the rules, using unpopular weapons with seemingly bizarre tactics? Yup, that sounds like Kirito's style of play.
