Fuuun Ishin Dai Shogun - Episode 12 [END]

Everybody fights. Keiichiro and Kiriko unite with their Demon and Goddess and each other to defeat Shigeyoshi. The war for Japan has only begun.

Heh.

Did I see Hyogo unleashed? Aw, only partial underboob. You're not going to beat the Sex Witch unless you're at full strength, Hyogo-kun!

What do they make those fans out of? Houkouin just sliced right through Chiharu's nunchakus.

You know, if I got my arm sliced off, I'd run away too. But I wouldn't stick around just long enough to say the guy who did it was "Interesting/amusing." He's a bit more than that...

Lots of steam-powered mecha action. Piercing their high pressure boilers? Can they do that?

Marika Strangelove stopped worrying and learned to love the steam engine...

The Shinsengumi are really that good. Wow. It's always nice to see gifted opponents in an action-adventure anime.

Just how sexy is dat Sex Witch ass?

Ahem, buy the blurays. They're not very consistent with the censoring, unless they think perv, er, people can't see butt crack through wavy fire lines.

In the final battle between Susanoo and Takemikazuchi we had Lightning versus Thunder.

Not sure what the distinction is between them, unless Thunder is more powerful because you get the non-flashy power of lightning plus the concussive strength of thunder.

Geh.

I can't believe this is the last time we'll see Kiriko for a while.

I wanted to see her in her ninja cat suit before the end of this season. Oh well.

Hmm.

We finally get a fuller explanation of what these Onigami are about. Susanoo has a difference of opinion about what to do about being stuck in Hell than Takemikazuchi. Takemikazuchi wants to drag people into Hell and make them "perfect." Susanoo seeks the help of the Light, Amaterasu the Sun Goddess. The prophecy of the Tokugawa heir is that his partner will be the avatar of Amaterasu, just like the Tokugawa is the avatar of the Onigami Susanoo. This is why Susanoo kept scooping up the girls of Keiichiro's harem, hoping that each of them would be the one. And they all had to be virgins because shrine priestesses can only receive the presence of a god if she is pure. But he went crazy the last time he scooped up Kiriko, because she hadn't had a vision of her Goddess like Keiichiro had already with the Onigami.

Well, problem solved. Fates intertwined.

And the Sex Witch Houkouin helped awaken everybody because she's been living for centuries and was bored. Witches in Japanese folklore always want to cause chaos out of boredom. I wonder what her Onigami wants. If we get more seasons, I hope to find out.

The season ends with Keiichiro finally going to Edo and claiming his legacy. Not the end, but just the beginning of his story. He also needs a new hammer. Just saying.

Final Thoughts.

Fuuun Ishin Dai Shogun was a fun, sexy take on a period piece mecha anime. The adaptation appeared to use the manga as a straight-up story board. However, this also contributed to some flat artwork, and unfortunate pan and scan of sub-standard illustration. The mix of CGI for the action vessels and mecha was done very well, but the use of CGI smoke and explosions on painted backgrounds of Nagasaki was jarring and took me out of the scenes.

Those little problems in transitional scenes aside, the writing was great, the acting outrageously over-the-top, as it should have been, and the gags were hilarious. Add in non-serious sexiness, especially since the main story took place in a bathhouse,  and the artists took full advantage of the beautiful character designs. It helped that the voice of Keiichiro is also Natsu from Fairy Tail, and well, I got all fired up.

This show was great fun, didn't take itself seriously, and liked making jokes. Just great entertainment all the way around. Just don't look too closely at some of the artwork.
