Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou - Episode 6
An episode for Shiro serves as a progress report for the other characters. Homemade Pythagoras Switch is a thing. Little girls like pudding.
Heh.
Shiro has to apologize for only liking girls 18 years and older. The mother of the little girl Chinatsu has a finely tuned pervert detector, but it can't match the accuracy of Shiro's sadism detector.
Ritsu accidentally gives Usa a compliment by saying that he'd be a way better boyfriend for a 9 year old girl than Shiro. Obviously...
Tell me, why should we sympathize with this girl who got into a fight with her friend by saying she hates anime? So meta.
Search for Pythagoras Switch and lose minutes out of your day looking at rolling balls and moving ramps.
Mayumi seems to still be a little girl too, if she can get into a serious argument with another little girl over a boy.
I love how each of the Kawaisou characters can be boiled down into one visual feature:
Geh.
Mayumi is still mai waifu.I even forgive her for using this look on a little girl, claiming that Shiro was her boyfriend, and she couldn't have him.
Hmm.
For an episode centered on Shiro, we got to see more of how he is as a person, but the other characters didn't really have much to do. Continuity is still working, since Ritsu and Usa are walking home from school now, and it's not awkward. However, we didn't see Ritsu trying to bring the world of whatever book she was reading into the real world. From what I could make out, the book looked like it said "The Wind Moves from the South River," but that's just a literal translation. There's usually a meaning with these books in the episode, but this one escapes me.
I liked that Sumiko prepared Shiro's heartbreak meal when Chinatsu stopped visiting because she had made up with her friends. He had become attached to her in that short time, and missed her. Aw.
I have an inkling that Shiro's little projects, like the big bubbles and rubber band gun for Mayumi, and this Pythagoras Switch machine, are actually for the book or story he's writing. We'll have to see if they're related or not.
I have to say that this episode felt like an extra one that would be included with a boxed set. Introduce new character only for this episode, evoke some feelings, but none of the characters actually change. Perhaps the author just wanted to play with his characters and threw something at them to see how they would react. Well, seeing little girls go crazy over pudding is always fun.
