Naruto Shippuuden - Episode 359

Kakashi Shippuuden continues. The Uchiha massacre happens, at the supposed hands of Itachi. Kakashi becomes a teacher.

Heh.

Guy's not sure he can be a teacher to young students after watching Naruto running around trying to pick a fight with Sasuke. Kakashi's not sure about that either.

I like that Kakashi asks Guy to accompany him to the Uchiha village for a friendly visit, but also for his own reconnaissance.

Hmm.

The story of the Uchiha massacre has been covered from many angles already, with the Third Hokage being ultimately responsible for directing Itachi to stop the coup d'état before the rest of ANBU has to invade and make a messy statement. Some interesting tidbits the filler, ah, anime-only in-depth retelling added is how Itachi's awakened Mangekyo allowed him to see the secrets of the Rinnegan on the Uchiha stone in the temple.

Sarutobi blames Danzo for the massacre because he's been fomenting tension with the Uchiha since the 9-tail attack killed Minato, and when he heard about the missing bodies, he figured Danzo wanted to keep the power of the Uchiha without the headache of the politics of having their enclave outside the village walls. However, we know that Obito/Madara took a few for his own collection of sharingan eyes.

That Itachi was talented enough to catch Obito/Madara in the act of infiltrating the village borders is no surprise, but adding the bit where he joined Akatsuki to make sure he kept his promise to leave Sasuke alone was a good one.

I saw a bit of an error with how Sasuke and Naruto acted with each other because I thought part of why Sasuke treated Naruto poorly was his emotional upheaval with losing his entire clan, and the mopey exterior also made the girls swoon trying to get his attention. Perhaps the tension from the Uchiha enclave, and just the general public's poor treatment of Naruto can explain it, but it strikes me as a continuity error.

Kakashi Shippuuden isn't over yet. The Third Hokage uses the Uchiha massacre to remake Danzo's ANBU into a military police, since they don't have the Uchiha clan to be their police force anymore, and he asks Kakashi to leave the ANBU to become a teacher. This is a good point, because Kakashi was only asked to join the Hokage's personal ANBU to watch over Kushina's pregnancy, to soften Kakashi's heart after losing both Obito and Rin. Sarutobi sees that this darkness never really went away for Kakashi, so maybe watching over children again will heal that darkness.

If I remember correctly, it was Naruto's squad that became Kakashi's actual first team, because they passed his test of claiming the bells, which was a training method he got from Minato. The lesson there was not to leave anyone behind, instead of claiming the bells at any cost. So maybe next time is really the last of Kakashi Shippuuden? We'll have to see.
