10 Second Anime - Nisekoi S2 - Episode 8

The magical girls of Nisekoi defeat the enemy of all women. Haru gets to know Raku better when he temps at the Onodera's sweets shop.

Heh.

Another week where we had two half episodes, but the first one could have been an OVA in its own right. Let's deal with the vignette that actually progresses the story first.

Haru still doesn't like Raku, even if her older sister and her mom approve of him.

She just won't accept Raku claiming to be her "Prince."

As with all the other girls who fell in love/like/whatever with him, Haru discovered they shared some interests and he tried to help her in some physical manner. This time, Haru wasn't fainting. It all ended in disaster, like usual.

Mama Onodera likes to tease her girls. Troll level - Master.

The OVA portion of the episode reimagined the girls in a subversive twist on the magical girl genre. Neat little details were having the girls' costumes and powers bear themes from their real lives - Onodera was a Patissiere (which is ironic because in her actual shop, she's such a bad cook that she only works as a clerk), Marika was a cop and Chitoge was... well, she was a gorilla-themed magical girl, and she wasn't too happy about it.

Each of the girls had their own companions, and their real world "companions" were employed to hilarious effect, especially Ruri-chan.

Magical girls need to show off their transformation scenes.

There were two pieces of metanarrative attached to the magical girls here. 1) Ruri warned Kosaki-chan that she would definitely get naked during the transition.

Kosaki-chan shock! As the normal girl in the series, Onodera is also the most modest, so that bit of her personality was brought into the magical girl show, as were her reactions to how shameless Marika was, another personality trait that followed Marika. And 2) the short transformation scene for Magical Girl Gorilla Chitoge-chan.

This was all a setup for how the magical girl show handled Tsugumi. As one of Raku's harem, she definitely should have been featured, but she also doesn't have a key and is a subordinate to Chitoge, like Honda is for Marika and Ruri is for Onodera. The subversive twist for Chitoge was that Tsugumi got the long naked transformation scene along with the cutest girliest costume.

The other companion girls didn't show off their human forms. I was disappointed. What would magical girl Honda look like?

Nakedness became a running joke. From Kosaki-chan having to run to the bathroom to transform, to the evil villain's anti-magic ray destroying their outfits, to a 5 minute powerup where all the girls would have to stand around naked.

Some of the rivalry between Chitoge and Marika was brought in too, as they clashed over who should be leader and get the best parts of being magical girls.

In the end, they were glad Kosaki-chan got the leader position because of the all the paperwork.

The funniest thing to me was who the main villain was - Shuu. Or Doctor Maiko.

Kosaki-chan was adamant about defeating him as soon as she heard his motivation for world domination - to attract magical girls to fight with him so he can see their transformation scenes. The Enemy of All Women must be put down.

The power of mundane pantsu saved the day. Thank you so much Kosaki-chan!

Were all the girls going for the Clark Kent effect? They all wore glasses with their regular clothes.

It was a fun diversion, but I'd rather see more of the main story where Haru has Raku's locket and all the comedy that will develop when she finds out who it belongs to.

Still, you can't go wrong with magical girls in small doses.

Geh.

Oh yisss. Tsugumi's legs!

Tsugumi definitely got the best costume.

She made a pretty cute cat in a hat too.
