Sword Art Online II - Episode 16

Magic weapon skills prove useful. An obvious quest trap turns into an advantage. The Big Boss is Big.

Heh.

Every bit of conversation is turning into foreshadowing. First, an update gave elemental damage to weapon skills, which proved useful against an enemy with high physical resistance, except for the cooldown associated with it. Leave it to Game Breaker Kirito to dual wield de facto style by transferring dominant weapon skills to his other hand and break his cooldown.

The other bit of foreshadowing was Klein lamenting his lack of finding his destined love, so far. Well, busty blonde Freya might be the answer to that problem. If Yui can be treated as an autonomous person by Kirito and Asuna, why not another AI NPC? Besides, the seeming trap she presented, a usual either-or choice in these kinds of quests, provided a good max life boost to the players.

We've seen the other players in action in SAO, and some of them in ALO, but I haven't seen Sinon as an elfin sniper.

Well, she's a cat fairy, not a real elfin sniper. So, does she wield her bow like she did her sniper rifle?

Yup, pretty much. No qualms about no-scoping a tank from point blank range.

Hmm.

Yui's information that ALO is not just based on the SEED from SAO, like other games including Gun Gale Online, but is a full copy only modified not to trap players in the game, or cause as much pain either. That was an important plot point in the Asuna rescue arc. However, it also means random quest generation has the capacity to destroy its own entire game world, because SAO was allowed to destroy its own game world. If a legend or myth upon which the quest is based, oh, like say the Frost Giants starting Ragnarok from the old Norse Sagas, well, anything can happen.

This theme is a bit like the sins of the father revisiting the son, and we have are own parallels here in SAO II. Kirito is even dual-wielding, in a way, and Asuna notices the deja vu feeling of all this happening again.

I wonder if the update to melee weapon skills to include elemental damage had an influence on whether this quest could be generated. Kirito and Leafa befriended that Hill Giant beast around the same time, so it might make sense to let every player, those specialized in magic or not, be involved in preventing or causing the destruction of their whole online world.

Those are things to be figured out later. Kirito and his party have a Big Big Boss to defeat, and with how much HP this King of the Frost Giants has, it looks like Freya is going to be a major factor in how the end of the battle gets decided. Bring on the quest triggered plot point!
