Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 2

Thenardier's forces invade Alsace as a power play against a weakened king. Elen agrees to lend Tigre troops in exchange for his land. Tigre takes up his ancestor's black blow.

Heh.

No fair making Tigre worry so much about protecting his land. Tigre may be rational on the battlefield when it's someone else's reasons at stake, but his passion for his state overwhelmed his military mind. Elen and Lim lost their bet to each other, though. No archery contest, and no making Tigre one of Elen's retainers. I wonder what the stakes of their bet was...

The Church is pretty powerful in this story. Nobody wants to get on their bad side.

This black bow doesn't look that gaudy to me. Is there some other reason Tigre doesn't want to use it? Maybe this is where the demonic bow twang in the title comes from.

Tigre's hair is always wind-tousled and cannot be tamed!

Well, it can be temporarily tamed.

This Zion prince is the guy who wanted to step on Tigre's bow before the battle last episode. He got what was coming to him with an arrow through the hand, and for messing with Tigre's woman, er, childhood friend, er maid.

Geh.

Elen sure does like teasing her new playthings, and using everything at her disposal too.

She wore that outfit so that he could look at her, instead of turning away because she was naked. How considerate.

And then she fished for compliments, but instead of getting an embarrassed reaction, Tigre earnestly told her he thought she was beautiful the moment he first saw her. Hnngh. Shot through her heart! No surprise there. He is a great marksman...

Hmm.

We're starting to get an outline of how the intrigue is working in this Bruneland Kingdom that Tigre comes from. The King's son and heir was killed in the battle where Tigre was captured. We also know from Elen's perspective that it was a rout that should not have been. The two noblemen trying to depose the King may have been involved in how that skirmish was executed.

With the King having his influence weakened, Thenardier thinks its time to flex his muscles and have everyone take notice. Three thousand soldiers and two dragons to suppress a land with a captured Lord is overkill, but it does make a statement about the strength and purpose of Thenardier's land.

Next time, we'll see what one thousand troops led by a War Maiden aided by a possessed bow can do against Thenardier's forces. And, assuming success, we'll see what a backwater duchy joining a neighboring Kingdom does to upset the politics of Bruneland. What I want to see is much more screen time for Lim. She's all dressed up, and I want to see her stick her sword in someone else's mouth, or get stabby, whatever works for her.
