Amagi Brilliant Park - Episode 1
A theme park which is the home of real magic creatures recruits a former child acting star to be their new manager to keep the park from closing.
Heh.
Moffle may get angry when he's accused of being a walking copyright violation, but he still says fumoffu at the end of everything he says.Mascots making rage faces? Sold on this show!
What else can Isuzu pull out from under her skirt?
What if Mori Summer were stripped of her personality? Yup. Isuzu.
This anime production house knows how to employ repetition for comedy gold.
The other attractions run by the mascots were certainly run down and neglected. But not Moffle's, the Candy Fairy House. Just don't piss him off.
He's always ready to throw down.
Of course, Amagi Brilliant Park has to have their own idol group. Their leader, Muse the Water Fairy, looks like she's still trying hard.
The other elemental fairies, Sylphy the Wind Fairy, Koboli the Earth Fairy and Salama the Fire Fairy (short for salamander, I'm sure) seem either oblivious or bored.
Isuzu herself may look human, pulling guns from nowhere notwithstanding, but her personality shows she has different conventions on politeness rules. Like being surprised in the bathroom and forgetting she has to scream in embarrassment.
She got there eventually.
Hmm.
The manager, Latifa, said that a prophecy identified Seiya as the Chosen One to save their park. She's dressed like a princess or queen, so there's obviously more to her role than mere manager of the park and the cast members. She has the ability to bestow magic on someone she kisses, but the new magic power seems random instead of chosen beforehand. Reading minds might be a valuable asset for negotiating with the parties that want to shut down the park.Seiya appears to have a history with her, or someone that looked like her, from his child acting days. He is also very protective of how a child accepts make-believe, and we see the point of contention for whatever trauma caused him to abruptly give up his acting career.
This was a nice first step into the magic world of Amagi Brilliant Park. We met the major players, set the scene for what needs improvement, and we got a flash of a back story and perhaps a prior history with Maple Land, where the magic creatures came from. I want to see Seiya butt heads with Fumoffu, er, Moffle some more. I also hope he doesn't end up in a Full Metal Panic about how deep in the hole this park appears to be.
