Naruto Shippuuden - Episode 338
Sasuke Shippuuden - Episode 9. Itachi explains how Izanami was developed to counter Izanagi. With Kabuto contained in the loop, Itachi can now end the Reanimation Jutsu.
Using a flashback of intra-clan feuds within the Uchiha to explain the origins of Izanami to counter Izanagi was way better than all the jabber that the manga had. Itachi also explains why both are forbidden jutsus. In Izanagi's case, not only does its use blind the eye that performs it, but it also causes arrogance and chaos among a clan that can keep erasing mistakes and try a different path. It's basically like the world is a game, and if you mess up, you can just go back to your last saved game. If no one agrees what was a mistake or what is a better path, chaos reigns. Izanami, which also causes blindness when used, creates a time loop by mixing illusion techniques with Izanagi's time jump. But it is a forbidden jutsu because it has a built in escape route: if the trapped person repents and stops attacking the Izanami wielder in the illusory loop, the jutsu ends. This was not a technique for the battlefield, but to admonish Izanagi users.
Sasuke asks Itachi when he actually performed the jutsu, and Itachi says it was the first time Kabuto used the katana to stab him. Like I said 4 episodes ago, this battle was already over. If Kabuto stops trying to turn himself into Orochimaru, he'll get out of the loop, but that's not happening anytime soon. So now, Itachi can end the reanimation jutsu, by casting a visual illusion technique on Kabuto, and fool him into making the signs to stop the reanimation technique. That means that he will end up disappearing too, which makes Sasuke sad that he won't have a chance to fully reconcile with his big brother. Itachi says he has someone else to help him through his anger at the village, and be the friend he thinks he never had. Oh yeah, what's the name of this show again?
