Kyoukai no Kanata - Episode 7

Mirai and Sakura get closure over Yui's death. Mitsuki is still the target of Hiromi's and Akihito's wild imaginations. And the Society of Spirit World Warriors isn't done with the Hollow Shadow yet.

Even though the larger plot gets moved a little, the little comedic bits still have to make their appearance. Hiromi is still obsessed with his little sister, even filling out an application for her to join their world's version of AKB48, a popular idol troupe in Japan. Akihito doesn't mind imagining Mitsuki in the group as long as everyone wears glasses. And Mirai is very protective of her bonsai trees. To their great shock, Ms. Ninomiya comes by not to rant about men, but to inform them that Sakura, who had attacked Mirai during the Hollow Shadow incident, is transferring to their school. The greater shock of the two is that Nino did not come to rant about men...

Sakura has still been busy feeding youmu crystals to her weapon, and collapses in the street before finishing one off. Akihito happens by, and uses the weapon to end the fight, noticing that the modified polearm ate up a bunch of his spirit energy as he held it. When Sakura wakes up in Akihito's bed, he asks her about the weapon and where she got it. As she feeds it the youmu crystal from the previous fight, she says some strange man let her borrow it, and that she could keep it if she kills Mirai. Before she reveals any more details, they get interrupted by Mirai knocking at Akihito's door to return his cell phone.

Seeing Sakura's shoes by the door, she imagines all sorts of illicit meetings between Mitsuki, Ayaka, Ai, Nino, and even Hiromi. Of course, she has to blog about it, and of course, Akihito warns her she's just going to get flamed again. Sakura decides to make her exit and Mirai sees her jump out the window. At school the next day, they arrange to hash it all out, and we see a quick glimpse of the "strange man" whispering something to Sakura in an alley. He is the observer from the Society of Spirit World Warriors.

The fight this time is one sided, and Mirai overwhelms Sakura. She was holding back before, because she had her issues with the Hollow Shadow, but she's fine now. A good exclamation point on that is in the previous meeting, the buzzsaw part of Sakura's weapon was cutting through Mirai's blood shield, and only Akihito's intrusion stopped the blade from striking her. This time, Mirai shows how strong she always was, and hardens the blood so much, she stops the chain from moving. Whatever this weapon is, it's hungry, and since it couldn't eat Mirai, it went after Sakura. Mirai makes quick work of its tendrils, and eventually they reconcile as they walk home.

I thought Mirai's final stab destroyed the weapon, but the Observer comes by and picks up the dormant weapon, pronouncing that it had eaten enough youmu, and still talking, says it's time he recovered the Hollow Shadow. Our larger plot is beginning now. Later that night, Mitsuki sees her big sister Izumi looking at the sky, and that same mirror like barrier is forming all over the city. So, Izumi was not the source of that power, but she knows what it is, The Calming is coming, and after that, what comes from Beyond the Boundary. Nice. We'll finally get an explanation on the show's title.
