Episode 5 — “Steeplechase Part I”
Hmm.
Like last year’s Nine Schools Competition, outside actors and the Ten Master
Clans jockey for position and status. This time, circumstances from the second
season combine with the third season’s anti-military propaganda campaign. I
can already see how the Steeplechase will unfold. Tatsuya and his Scooby Gang
will defeat the robots with the interdimensional “parasites,” except for one.
The last one will have a curveball magical twist that only Tatsuya can figure
out and overcome. That’s how Mahouka rolls! So, let’s enjoy the high
school slice-of-life antics and the adults sitting around talking until the
BAMF conclusion.
Heh.
Patriarch Kudou confused the military when he encouraged the Steeplechase
event. Saeki knew he hated the idea of magicians becoming military
weapons, so why have these overtly combat-oriented games in the Nine
Schools Competition? Because Kudou wants to test his parasite-controlled
gynoids. Codename: P-weapons. Backfire imminent! The news about events
changing only a month before the games devastates magic tech nerd Azusa.
All her reconnaissance for nothing! Oh, right. She’s also the student
council president now! Way to go, little lady. Hello there, Hiromi Saeki.
She’ll soon compete with Kyouko Fujibayashi for Tatsuya’s attention in the
military sphere.
Four Leaves Technology’s “total thought-controlled CAD” will be vital to
Tatsuya’s involvement during the Steeplechase fiasco. Oho. Tatsuya
finished testing the new tech so he could go on a “date” with his sister.
Swimsuits! Ahaha! The Saegusas are here to ruin his day. Looking good,
Mayumi! Kasumi received a dose of the Tatsuya treatment. Disarming maidens
with logical questions is just what he does. Miyuki likes how he plays
rough with the competition. Pout!
The new ending theme for this Mahouka story arc features the women in
Tatsuya’s life, focusing on the Yotsuba girls, Miyuki, Maya, and Ayako. But I
also see his covert commander, Kyouko, in sequence, plus the military leader,
Hiromi.
