Episode 2 — “Double Seven Part II”
Hmm.
I’m not a fan of how Mahouka mixes CGI animation with 2D. It appears random on which scenes use CGI and which have traditional animation techniques. I hope the studio in charge of animation, 8-bit, gets better as the season progresses. But I doubt it will because the copyright date on the episodes is 2023. The season is already in the can.
The high school kids already know how journalists chop up quotes and videos to change the context. Mahouka continues its conservative tone against progressive ideas. Good.
Heh.
Club recruitment is always a big deal in Mahouka. Does the student council get the most talented new student? Or will it be the discipline committee so it can beat down deserving idiots who doubt Tatsuya’s abilities? Shippou holds a grudge against the Saegusa because he’s a branch family member.
The ruling Kudou patriarch approves of the Saegusa plan of knocking the Yotsuba family down a peg because Tatsuya walks around free. The anti-humanist campaign that targeted the tower that Tatsuya rebuilt is still active. Saegusa proposes to let the media target a high school student to relieve public pressure on magicians. Kudou and Saegusa can redirect sympathy against the anti-magic faction and diminish the Yotsubas’ standing in the same action.
The Yotsuba cousins who love Tatsuya so much already know about the anti-magic campaign. They’ll mess up the Saegusa plot to mess with Tatsuya. Even Jumonji suspects the Saegusa family is manipulating the media. Ha! Mr. Saegusa admitted it straight after Jumonji asked him! Saegusa thinks splitting the sentiments (getting angry at magicians, the military, or the government) will let the public move onto something else in about a month. We’ll see about that! But Mayumi’s father suspects she opposes his media manipulation plan because of her feelings about another student at First Magic Academy. Who could it be? Oh, we already know.
But Tatsuya has a plan to protect his peaceful high school life. Because, of course, Magical Jesus always has a plan.
