Episode 46 — “A Dream of Butterflies”

Akiko Yosano’s story during the Great Gifted War brings home the point that the Gifted are still human. Their supernatural abilities have less importance than how their intentions behind using them. The Armed Detective Agency recruited Akiko for her kindness, not her healing ability. But Akiko didn’t look exceptionally “kind” when we learned how her Gift works. A patient’s body needs a mortal wound before she can use it, so she had to move a slight injury into a fatal one.

Mori wants Akiko back by his side so she can heal his Port Mafia members. A mysterious island appeared near the end of “the great war” and became the final battleground. Akiko’s ability “Thou Shalt Not Die” was much sought after. Akiko does not want to have reminders of the trauma and horrors of soldiers going insane from being healed over and over again.

Fukuzawa kept Mori from taking Akiko with him after the war ended. Mori intended to form an immortal army to take down the Port Mafia boss. He would later settle on becoming the boss himself. As Fukuzawa and Mori fought, Ranpo walked out of the sanatorium with Akiko. Keikakudoori. Akiko became the third member of the Armed Detective Agency. She’ll do whatever it takes to protect her new family.
