We see Ashikiba's old Trek Madone 5.9 with its Dura-Ace components, Shimano pedals, and a Selle Italia saddle. Yowamushi Pedal compares that to his oversized Willier as he sprints against Teshima's Cannondale. His growth spurt must have hurt.

The flashbacks continue in Yowamushi Pedal. Ashikiba wants to stop Teshima from quitting the cycling club. But how? A bike ride to shrines on New Year's Eve? And that's over. Ashikiba's family has to move again, so he can't even say goodbye before the end of the year. Ashikiba entered Hakone, joined the cycling team, and hoped to see Teshima again somewhere on his bicycle. That worked out! Sprinting for the last mountain sprint line is the best reunion. Who had the better bike throw? Teshima! Because he powered right through it!
