Meninas and Candice punched Kenpachi around after he defeated a challenging Stern Ritter. Candice's electricity burned up Kenpachi, and the Squad Captain could no longer return blows with the beautiful Quincies. Could this be his last moment?
The other Soul Society captains and lieutenants rushed to Kenpachi's side, but Rukia and her colleagues felt a familiar, overpowering spiritual pressure falling from the sky. Ichigo Kurosaki blasted through the Quincy barrier. He flash-stepped to Kenpachi Zaraki so quickly that his shock wave blew the Stern Ritter girls away.
Candice and the Stern Ritters knew Ichigo's reputation but didn't expect him to stand toe to toe with them through physicality alone. The Quincy girls needed to inflict more seriously damaging attacks.
The girls tried but to no avail. Ichigo even showed them, and us, his new version of a super-concentrated Getsuga Tenshou. And he still had his incredible physicality to thwart the Stern Ritter girls' mahou shoujo transformations. Candice took her form to the next level.
Candice's efforts fell short because Ichigo demonstrated what a Getsuga attack looked like with two swords. Getsuga Jijushou! The name comes from a play on the kanji for the number ten because it resembles a cross. That's the perfect weapon against Quincies, whose powers all use the iconography of crosses.
As usual for shounen plots, this expensive attack on Soul Society was a massive feint. The Quincies hoped to draw someone from the Soul Kingdom to invade through the path that person created. Yhwach and Ishida left Soul Society and the newly returned Orihime and Chad to confront the Soul King. Ichigo's reunion with Ishida faces another delay.
