Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san S2 - Episode 2 - 10 Second Anime

Senpai screws up his courage to ask Nagatoro to the zoo for an art sketching date.

Episode 2 – “You’re Inviting Me, Senpai?!”

Hmm.

I love watching characters grow. Compare Senpai’s self-confidence in the first season’s first episode of Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro. That timid mousy guy is now making fish jokes with beautiful flashy gals. Can you imagine the beta version of Senpai asking Nagatoro out on a date to the zoo? He even stood up to a gyaru couple. And he almost got into a fight with the flashy dude that bothered Nagatoro in the first season! He still needed help from her, but Senpai stood taller than when we first met him.

Nagatoro witnessed Senpai become more self-confident twice. Seeing how much she hoped and anticipated Senpai asking her to the zoo was confirmation of her feelings for him. Every episode confirms that, but watching this awkward couple grow closer together is adorable. Nagatoro still needs to grow, so she can express her feelings without smacking Senpai with her wiggly arms. Miss Nagatoro needs the comedy she generates when her tsundere emotions explode into slapstick affection. But the cutesy moments make me smile.

Heh.

A typical scene for Miss Nagatoro. Nagatoro is loafing around and eating snacks. She’s a natural athlete. She can pop a candy into her mouth, but can Nagatoro toss one into Senpai’s mouth? Ha! Blow dart candy! This scene reminds me of Dagashi Kashi. The characters are similar as well! Oh, good. No choking jokes.

Senpai doesn’t feel artistically inspired lately. Aha! Club President appears just in time to kickstart Senpai’s creative juices. She understands. Senpai finished many pieces for the club’s art show at the cultural festival. Check the last two episodes of Miss Nagatoro’s first season for all the shenanigans. President reminds Senpai he needs to feel the most essential aspect of art. It’s love! Senpai still can’t say it out loud. President wants Senpai to go to the zoo. She also likes refreshing her mind and body in nature, but her methods are not drawing live subjects. Oh, there are two zoo tickets! President wants Senpai to take Nagatoro with him. For love! President calls Nagatoro “the cat-eared girl.”

Ha! Nagatoro thinks of President as a blacky bunny. What does “drawing live subjects” mean to Nagatoro? She made a joke that mixing fish roe will make you pregnant! Nagatoro is quick! She saw the zoo tickets and figured out Senpai would ask her on a date! She wants that to happen! Aw. Look at how nervous Senpai is. Nagatoro silently encourages him. Here we go! Nagatoro will say yes to anything to help Senpai ask her out. Putting that aside! That’s my favorite comedy bit in Miss Nagatoro. Drawing is fine, and Nagatoro will draw animals, so ask her out to the zoo already! Senpai stuck the landing. Look how happy Nagatoro was! You can tell by how much wiggly arm swatting she does.

Miss Nagatoro goes to the zoo. Look! Nagatoro has an artsy beret! Oh, dear. Nagatoro literally had something else in mind for the zoo date. She heard Senpai and President talking about “シャセイ (shasei)” in the art club room. For artists, 写生 (しゃせい, shasei) means “drawing from nature.” But shasei is also a homonym for 射精 (しゃせい, shasei), which is “ejaculation.” There is no fish cum (白子, しらこ, shirako) sushi at the zoo! Nagatoro needs to kick Senpai for giving her dirty thoughts. The eye catches show Nagatoro and Senpai making date preparations.

Cute. It’s a red panda! Cuter! Nagatoro goes crazy for the adorable red panda! Senpai is not as excitable. Nagatoro pout! Senpai is well-conditioned by now to expect retaliation. Fast! Nagatoro was quick to forgive. Ah, that’s why. She wants Senpai to be a hands-on teacher of gentle and hard strokes. Ahem. No shirako sushi at the park, Miss Nagatoro! Dude! Senpai actually held Nagatoro’s hand! He draws clean, solid lines for someone using someone else’s hand. Animal drawing montage! Aw. Nagatoro likes Senpai’s serious face.

Lunchtime for Miss Nagatoro. Can you tell whose sketch is which? What’s the trick for making art come alive? It’s love! Senpai can’t say it like that, though. Uh oh. A gyaru and a gyaru-oh (gal guy) are on a date. Senpai can’t handle those types. Well. He can’t take them as strangers. He’s had plenty of practice with the Nagatoro friends. Whoops! It’s that guy that tried hitting on Nagatoro. Hahaha! Here’s confirmation that Miss Nagatoro is told from Senpai’s perspective. He says he can’t remember faces well. Anyone without eyes is an acquaintance of Senpai. Oh, don’t do that. The gyaru couple is making fun of Nagatoro’s art. Senpai will defend his tan skin-fanged torturer’s efforts! Senpai grew a spine, but I wish it had a better posture.

That was a brave effort from Senpai, but he can’t maintain that confident attitude. Oh yeah! All the gyaru are scared of Nagatoro. Putting that aside! Suddenly the gyaru couple isn’t interested in picking fights anymore. Aw. Nagatoro saw Senpai standing up for her. Miss Nagatoro shows him becoming less mousy. She’s proud of him.

There’s time for one more sketch at the zoo, so they’ll draw her favorite animal. Oh, what a mischievous grin, Nagatoro. She made Senpai draw a sloth, but what is she drawing? It looks like she’s drawing with love! Of course! She drew Senpai, the five-fingered sloth! Nagatoro’s deranged killer faces slay me. Senpai got his artistic spark back too.

Next time in Miss Nagatoro, it’s the school marathon. Why is Club President running in a bunny girl outfit?
