The athletically inclined Komichi Akebi wants to go to the same junior high school her mother attended. Why? Because she wants to wear a sailor uniform as her favorite idol singer does. During this part of the Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku episode, we saw hints that the anime will cover another fetish besides the sailor school uniform.
The sailor uniform, hand-sewn by her mother, made Komichi so happy and proud. She was ready to show it off at the school entrance ceremony.
The school administrators gave Komichi permission to wear the uniform. But Komichi wasn't sure she wanted to stand apart from her new classmates. Her little sister Kao gave her a motivational smack in the butt to remind her how "cool" she was supposed to be. We saw a few more shots of what the other theme of Akebi-chan will be.
Komichi enjoyed her climb up the hill to the girls' academy. Animation studio CloverWorks made the entire episode beautiful with its intricate and lush backgrounds.
Komichi thought she would be the first person in her class, but Erika was already there. Komichi needed to steel herself for the first challenge of her first year of junior high. Can she handle the other girls noticing how different she is? Well, everyone is different once you get to know them. Erika proved to be a weirdo in her own right because she has a nervous habit of clipping her nails and smelling her nail cuttings! Yes, the other theme of Akebi-chan is evangelizing the foot fetish far and wide. The primary theme of subverting the notion of wearing school uniforms making everyone the same is still foremost.
