Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! - Episode 1 - 10 Second Anime

The powerful, beautiful demoness Jahy finds herself suddenly weak and small in the human world.

Restoration Plan No. 1 – “The Great Jahy Can’t Go Back!”

First Thoughts.

I’ve heard the premise behind The Great Jahy Will Not be Defeated! before. A demon lord faces defeat at the hands of a magical warrior. The newly weakened demon now lives in the human world, fighting against low wages, high rent, and poor living conditions. No, this is not The Devil is a Part-Timer! or The Demon Girl Next Door. Many elements are the same, but The Great Jahy sets itself apart with one key difference. The main character is a hot, dark-skinned girl! Naomi Oozora is her voice actress, best known as another devilish girl living in the human world, Satania from Gabriel DropOut. And another devilish short stack, Uzaki from Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!, preaching about choco-mint ice cream to her senpai.

The manga artist Konbu Wakame specializes in dark-skinned beauties. Besides The Great Jahy, Konbu writes and illustrates The Maid I Recently Hired is Mysterious, which stars another beautiful bronze girl. If you’re a fan of tan girls, you’ve found a home in The Great Jahy anime. We have two seasons, but only twenty episodes due to a late premiere, to appreciate Jahy in all her forms, so relax and get comfortable.

Speaking of Jahy’s other form, her T-shirt-clad child version reminds me of 40hara’s My Cat is a Kawaii Girl series. The Great Jahy gives you layers of cuteness to behold. You have a mastermind child, like Venera in World Conquest Zvezda Plot, and you have a bar waitress bringing you mugs of beer, like Nana in Plunderer. The Great Jahy covers a wide area for those who appreciate gorgeous character designs. I’ll have two more beers, please!

Hmm.

When I saw how closely the small Jahy resembled 40hara’s catgirl Kinako, I knew I needed to pay attention to what her T-shirt said. The cute catgirl has “sakana (fish)” on it, which cats want. Presumably. What does the Great Jahy want? 魔界復興 (makai fukkou – literally “hell restoration”) means “Restore the Dark Realm.” Now you know why each episode is “Restoration Plan X.” The Great Jahy is single-minded.

Jahy’s circumstances are funnier when you know what her name means. Jahi is the Zoroastrian demoness of “lasciviousness.” Our first sight of her is as a dark and sexy lady bathing in red wine. Then a certain magical girl flies right in and destroys her gigantic mana crystal. Now the Great Jahy looks like a kindergartener. That is a contrast that makes me giggle every time I see her in that oversized T-shirt.

Heh.

Starting right off with the opening credits. Spoilers! The Great Jahy shows us all the characters from Jahy’s past coming to the human world. Dark-skinned beauty serving beer! Busty, kind-faced big sister! Ara, ara! Chibi Jahy is still no match for the overpowered magic girl. Ooh, there are scenes for wrestling fans!

The Great Jahy is poor. She bathes in a bucket on the floor. Pathetic! She used to live like a queen. She had magical power. She soaked in red wine! The Great Jahy was the Dark Realm’s second-in-command. But a magical girl flew in and destroyed her large magic crystal. The magical girl has two moles under her eye. We’ll see her again. The Great Jahy was no longer so great. She landed in the gutter in the human world. Quick summary!

Now, Chibi Jahy fights the washbasin. Utter defeat. Jahy hates her tiny form. Despicable treatment for her is tripping and having dogs lick her. She has a goal, though. Gather the mana crystal shards and regain her terrible power. But first, she needs to save money and eat. Eating fancy these days means mayonnaise on bean sprouts.

Here we go! Great Jahy transformation! She needs this short-lasting form to... serve beer! Is this the perfect show? Yes. Yes, it just might be. Ooh. A calm, gentle big sister type. Har. The bar’s name is Maou (demon lord). Adulting is hard... The bar owner is too kind. Jahy learns to smile for money.

Uh oh. The Great Jahy’s next crisis. Running out of mana and reverting to Chibi Jahy! How will the boss react? By hugging her! That’s not a normal human response. She should be surprised a runaway homeless girl has a child form. Is there more to the boss than meets the eye? I hope we find out. Payday! I made the same face for my first paycheck. And she gave Jahy food to take home. She’s an angel! Jahy needs to regain her pride. Also, her crystals, powers, and the Dark Realm.

The Great Jahy’s next calamity arrived! Rent day! The landlady has wrestling moves. Crouching tiger versus hidden dragon! How many months has Jahy been delinquent on her rent? Oho. The landlady is the bar owner’s sister. The bar owner found Jahy first. Jahy used to live in a cardboard house by the river. She should show gratitude. Boston crab! Run! That green-haired lady in the limousine was in the opening credits. That’s nice foreshadowing here. Hahaha! Landlady runs fast! And the crisis is over. Bar owner big sister will stop the fighting. Look at those flat scary eyes! Landlady has a name. Ryou-chan. Bar Owner calls Jahy “Hy-chan,” so everyone is cute to her.

Hey! The Great Jahy engages in genuine plot progression. Jahy’s next calamity is losing her only mana crystal. She can’t go to work as Chibi Jahy! She also thinks if a human found it, great disasters would follow. From such a small thing? It barely holds enough mana to keep Jahy’s original form for a few hours. The Bar Owner found Jahy’s necklace after she went poof into Chibi Jahy. Many jokes about extremely small misfortunes. Yes, Bar Owner should have sore shoulders from carrying her “sacks of fat” around. Bar Owner likes to scold problem children. She must be accustomed to it from dealing with Landlady Ryou-chan.

Ah. Bar Owner did suffer misfortune. Ryou-chan caught her in an embarrassing pose, and she barked her shin. That’s not like a volcano erupting, though. The Great Jahy can’t abide feeling grateful to a human. She needs to regain her status quickly!

The end credits bled into the episode, but only by a few seconds. Spoiler-rich content for The Great Jahy here too. I see a high school girl suffering slight misfortunes with the same two moles under her eye that the magical girl who destroyed the mana crystal had. Defeating the Dark Realm had consequences. Chibi Jahy collects mana crystals. Will it be that easy in the anime?

Next time, Jahy meets an old friend. I’m thinking of that green-haired girl in the limousine.
