Mael regained his identity after Gowther lifted his curse from three thousand years ago that implanted false memories of the false demon brother Estarossa. Mael was the strongest Archangel. He also admired his older brother Ludociel.
The distressed Mael let go of Elizabeth. Derieri quickly came to her side and promised to repay her for how she helped her and Monspeet escape from the other Ten Commandments. Mael was too strong with the embedded Commandment powers he held, and he pierced Derieri's chest. In a near-death experience, Derieri recalled a memory of Monspeet declaring his never-faltering devotion to her. She was too oblivious to see it back then, and she wished she had the chance to share her love with him openly before he sacrificed himself for her sake.
