The Maglia Nera (black jersey) is what the Giro calls the last rider on time in the overall classification.
The Giro d'Italia used to award the Maglia Nera at the end of the race along with the other jerseys, from 1946 to 1951. However, after several riders tried to "win" the last place prize by hiding along the course, the Giro organizers retired the prize and the jersey. These days, you can still "win" the Maglia Nera by shopping for it in the Giro's official merchandise store. Currently, the Maglia Nera at the second rest day is Italian Riccardo Minali riding for Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux. He trails current leader Egan Bernal of Ineos Grenadiers by 3:55:29.
