After hearing the sad news of Mejiro McQueen suffering a potentially career ending injury, Toukai Teiou promised they would race together again by proving miracles can happen. No horse girl had ever won her first race back after a year long absence. How could Teiou win against such a strong field of winners, especially against Biwa Hayahide who had an amazing winning streak going into the Arima Kinen race?
Teiou and McQueen wear their Version 2.0 gear in the eye catch, but I'm happy to see Teiou bet back to basics in her previous race costume.
McQueen was scared to watch Teiou race because she didn't want to see her hopes dashed and her symbolic hopes of recovery dashed either. Teiou, in the most emotional running scene since Chariots of Fire, gritted her teeth, planted her sprint foot, and launched into the final straight against Biwa.
Biwa had a strong speed aura, but the special little horse girl Toukai Teiou's force of will was stronger. She won for herself, for finally fulfilling a goal she wrote down, and for her best friend Mejiro McQueen.
Miracles do happen and there wasn't a dry eye in the nation of Japan after watching Teiou's comeback. The other horse girls on the track were just as happy as everyone else. A great prize for the audience was watching Biwa Hayahide back up Teiou in her winners' circle idol concert performance.
Epilogue time. The biggest little horse girl fans of McQueen and Teiou, Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond, entered the horse girl academy of their heroes. And, back from injury, McQueen raced Teiou on the training track again. The end!
