Non Non Biyori Nonstop - Episode 7 - 10 Second Anime

Natsumi disappoints her mother at Parents’ Day. Renge plays with Shiori and makes a crab aquarium with Natsumi.

Episode 7 – “It Was a Thrilling Autumn”

Hmm.

The theme of Non Non Biyori Nonstop this week is that Natsumi can be smart in unconventional ways. First, we needed to see how Natsumi is not smart in any conventional manner, especially under the pressure of her indomitable mother. The philosophical discussion between young Renge and the younger Shiori didn’t seem connected to Natsumi at first, until she showed up at the end of the scene, but it was a way demonstrating how conventional knowledge isn’t as correct as schoolbooks claim. That’s a comforting thought for the contrarian and argumentative Natsumi.

The last scene brought the whole Non Non Biyori Nonstop episode together as Natsumi quickly and efficiently put together an aquarium for Renge’s new pet crab. Kazuho, who banged the gong on Natsumi’s utter failure in front of her mother, made the punchline about Natsumi having gifts in other ways. Her reward for doing something impressive was crab cakes!

Heh.

Renge says every day is Parents’ Day for her, so the real Parents’ Day doesn’t feel special. Aw. Renge wants to invite Ms. Candy Store Kaede. Uh oh. Natsumi has dead eyes. Her mom won’t be happy with her. Oh snap. Natsumi pulls the blackmail tactic on Kazuho, so now they need to be in cahoots to show off Natsumi’s good side to her mom. The other kids don’t like collusion. Kazuho changes her mind. She’s an adult and teacher. She has morals, kind of.

Yay! Kaede came to Parents’ Day! We’re still not going to see what Renge’s parents look like. Natsumi’s day will be a disaster. She forgot everything she memorized yesterday! The other kids have no problems impressing their parents, but Natsumi can’t even recite a multiplication table. Renge yelled one out for her! Natsumi knows all the wrong answers! She can’t even read “I don’t know,” in English! Kazuho tried her best. Gong show ending! Yukiko started smiling because she knew she would punish Natsumi now.

The next story has Shiori in it, which means Renge gets to play big sister again. I love this stuff. Renge usually says all the random stuff which the older girls need to interpret, but Shiori pulls all that stuff on Renge. Shiori wants to take her soccer ball out for a walk. Her family can’t have pets, so she made do. Its name is Dumpling! And Shiori kicked the hell out of Dumpling! It may be her pet, but Dumpling is still a ball. Renge can’t keep up with the child’s questions. How does that feel, big sister Renge-chon? This conversation about friction, gravity, and roundness became deeply philosophical. And quiet. Natsumi ran into the little girl, and the cycle of a big sister trying to keep up with children’s conversations begins again.

The next vignette starts with Natsumi and Renge catching crabs. Ha! Natsumi’s family pond still has that Boss Koi she caught. Natsumi is good at setting up an aquarium. Why did Renge call the gushing water “Merlion?” Because she saw the Singaporean statue spew water the same way? Kazuho states the obvious – Natsumi can’t study but she can do other complicated things. Impressive! Oops. They can’t have crab for dinner!

Natsumi and Komari hold up the ending splash screen this time. Next time, Akane needs to deal with saying goodbye to the graduating Konomi. The fan omake shows us big koi, but no Boss Koi.
