Toukai Teiou continued to improve her performance during her offseason while Mejiro McQueen also continued to race well into the New Year's celebrations. Teiou drank sweet (non-alcoholic) sake while McQueen reminded Trainer of his place in Team Spica.
Hayasaka Tazuna, a trainer at the race horse academy, rushed in to tell Trainer that both Toukai Teiou and Mejiro McQueen received nominations for racehorse of the year. They tied! Dramatically, they proclaimed their goals for the coming year, Teiou to remain undefeated and McQueen to defend her title at a popular race, may come to a dramatic head if Teiou decides to repeat her attempt at a Triple Crown.
Symboli Rudolf takes her turn in an eye catch, which is important to Toukai Teiou and slightly to McQueen, because of how Teiou and McQueen met on the first day of school.
Teiou and McQueen's friendly rivalry began on the first day of high school and their mutual respect continued to push them both to great heights in their racing careers.
Mejiro McQueen's first race of the new season had all the other racehorse girls gunning for her, but she knew what to do, how to do it, and when to do it when the blocking strategies started. Those girls never had a chance against McQueen's stamina and finishing moves.
Teiou's opening race of the season showed off her new outfit she received from her prize at the racehorse of the year awards. McQueen's first race of the year was rainy, so we didn't see her new outfit yet. Maybe next episode we'll see it too.
