It's not often that the peloton of riders stays level with the aircraft covering the Tour de France. It sometimes happens on very steep climbing stages that a rider can wave to a helicopter pilot, but the runway at the Aerodrome de Champagnole-Crotenay runs right alongside the Stage 19 route, where the helicopters also refueled. The Tour uses planes to receive broadcast transmissions from the motorcycle cameras following the race. Helicopters shoot all the overhead shots, or sometimes ground level shots, which is what happened here.
