The Tour de France passed over the Verdon river at Castellane on Stage 3. The Gorges of the Verdon, the canyon the Verdon river carved through southern France, is the largest canyon in Europe and the second largest canyon in the world, only surpassed in area and length by the Grand Canyon in the United States of America.
